CAT Exam Pattern 2018 - CAT 2018 Pattern, Syllabus, Marking Scheme

CAT Exam Pattern 2018 is available along with the short overview of CAT Syllabus and Marking Scheme. The candidates who wish to appear in CAT must familiarise themselves with CAT 2018 Pattern for the better overview of the exam and its technicalities. The detailed analysis of CAT Exam Pattern followed by the Marking Scheme and the Syllabus are discussed on this page. CAT 2018 will be a Computer Based Test. Till 2008, it was a pen paper-based test. The scores obtained by the students in CAT will be calculated and accepted by the top-ranking management institutes including the IIMs. There will be 100 Objective type or MCQs as well as descriptive type question. CAT Exam Pattern

Apart from the CAT Question Paper Pattern, the candidate should also make themselves aware of the other important facts about the exam.

  • CAT will be of 180 minutes containing 100 questions in total, students are allowed to use the on-screen calculator for the calculations.
  • CAT 2018 will be a combination of MCQ and Descriptive Questions i.e. the students have to write the answer without having any access to the options for the answers.
  • CAT Exam questions will be divided into three sections where 60 minutes will be given to complete each section.
  • Candidates must complete one section within the given time limit to move on to another.
  • The candidates must note that there is no provision of jumping from one section to another.

CAT Mock Test: CAT 2018 Tutorial or mock test will be released in the second week of October 2018 that is with the release of the admit card. The candidates are advised to go through the CAT Mock test to familiarise themselves with the pattern.

Duration of CAT Exam: 3 hours (180 minutes)

Type of Questions: CAT 2018 exam paper will have both Objectives as well as descriptive types. There will be a total of 100 questions covering all the three segments, namely:

CAT 2018 Marking Scheme

Marking of MCQs: CAT 2018 will be a 300 marks examination where each question will be 3 marks. If the candidate answered the question correctly he/she will be awarded full 3 marks but if he/she answered the questions incorrectly 1/3 marks will be deducted as negative marking and no marks will be awarded for unanswered questions.

  • Negative Marking: 1 mark will be deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • No marks will be given or deducted for un-attempted questions.

Marking Descriptive Answers: Each Correct Answer will be Awarded 3 marks.

  • Negative Marking: No Negative marking for a wrong attempt at questions.
