About PRMO 2017

PRMO 2017 (Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad) is a Mathematical Olympiad conducted for the 25 regions of India and the shortlisted candidates are given chance to appear in RMO which leads to the International Olympiad 2018. The Complete details of the Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad can be found here on this page. PRMO Registration has been started for the 2017-18 session. The students who are born on or after 1 August 1998 and studying in class 11 or below are only eligible to participate in the PRMO.  The application can be submitted only through online mode till 25 July 2017. PRMO 2017 is the first stage of All India Mathematical Olympiad. The students who dream to represent India at International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2018 will have to take first a machine-correctable test which is scheduled to be held on 20 August 2017 (Pre RMO).

Major Changes in PRMO 2017 Exam

  • PRMO 2017 (Pre RMO) will be now organised at all India level by the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) in coordination with NBHM. Earlier, it was being conducted zone-wise by the National Board for Higher Mathematics (NBHM). This year pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) exam will be held on 20 August 2017 at different centres across the country which is mandatory to appear in RMO and successive stages.
  • The NBHM has entrusted its implementation to the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education (HBCSE) to be carried out in coordination with the MO-Cell and the National Coordinator.
  • Pre RMO 2017 will be a machine-correctable test of 30 questions and each question will have an answer which is a number with one or two digits. Sample papers will be uploaded here soon, bookmark us using ctrl+d for the latest updates.
  • A portal will be opened from 20 May 2017 to 20 June 2017 where schools can register as centres. Any school with minimum 20 registrations can register as a centre. However, IAPT will finally approve schools as a centre.

PRMO 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Details
  • Nationality: The candidates want to participate in the pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) must be an Indian citizen. Indian students studying abroad are also eligible to participate in the pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad but such candidates cannot participate in Olympiad selection process for another country. Such a student has to make own arrangements to take the relevant examination at the nearest examination centre.
  • Age: The students who are born on or after 1 August 1998 are only eligible to enrol for participating in the pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad 2017-18.
  • Educational Qualification: The students who are studying in class 11 or below in any government or recognised private school are eligible to participate.

PRMO 2017 Reward

  • The Top 300 students who qualified in a machine-correctable test scheduled to be held on 8 October 2017 will be selected to write the Regional Mathematics Olympiad (RMO) exam. On the basis of performances in RMO, 35 students are selected for INMO which is scheduled to be held on 3rd Sunday of January 2018. These students will be chosen as INMO awardees.
  • The students who qualify in INMO will be selected for 1-month training at International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) Mumbai and the students who have not qualified, are awarded the ”INMO Certificate of Merit”.
  • In last, top 6 students are finalised to represent India at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2018. The top 6 students will have a chance to avail a number of scholarship for study in the future.

PRMO 2017 Application form and Process

Eligible candidates can participate in the Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO) only through online mode. The students can register themselves online on the official website of the Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) at https://www.iapt.org.in. The application process has been started and the students can register by 30 June 25 July 2017. To fill online registration form, the students have to follow the guideline mentioned below:

  • STEP 1: First, the candidates have to visit the official website of IAPT directly or by clicking the link given on this page.
  • STEP 2: Now the candidates have to fill the registration form. The student has to provide general information about him/her such as personal details. Educational details, details of the school they are currently studying in.
  • STEP 3: The students also have to provide their contact details, address. Now the candidates have to choose one of the approved examination centres. Now the candidates have to upload a scanned copy of their latest passport size photograph.
  • STEP 4: Now the candidates have to pay the application fee of the Pre-Regional Mathematical Olympiad (PRMO). Each student will have to select 2 examination centres in which he/she wish to appear for the test.

PRMO 2017 Application Submission


The students can submit the registration form only through online mode on the official website of Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) at www.iapt.org.in. After filling the application form and making payment of the application fee, the candidates have to take a printout of the completed application form for future uses.

PRMO 2017 Admit Card


The Pre RMO 2017 Admit Card is released on 5 August 2017. Candidates who applied for Pre RMO 2017 Examination must carry the admit card at the exam centre. PRMO 2017 Selection Process

  • The candidates who will apply online successfully will have to appear in a written test conducted at various centre across the country on 20 August 2017. On the basis of written test, top 300 students from each region will be selected to write the Regional Mathematics Olympiad (RMO) exam.
  • Based on the RMO exam, the final list of 30 top students plus the next 5 girl students will be sent by each regional coordinator to HBCSE. The selected students will be eligible to appear in the 4 hours INMO (Indian National Mathematical Olympiad) written test which will be held on 3rd Sunday of January 2018.  
  • On the basis of performances of the candidates in INMO written test, top 30-35 students will be selected for 1-month training at International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC). These qualify students will also be selected as INMO awardees.
  •  After International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp, a team of 6 students will be finalised to represent India at the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) 2018. This year, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil is hosting 58th International Mathematical Olympiad.
