About GMAT

GMAT 2018-19 or Graduate Management Aptitude Test is a Computer Adaptive exam that is used to take admission into Management Program such as MBA, MBA in Finance, Accountancy related courses. GMAT 2018-19 scores obtained by the candidates are applicable for more than 2100 Universities and Institution all over the world.

  • GMAT Exam is conducted in 112 countries all over the world by Graduate Management Admission Council (GMAC) which is a non-profit organising body.
  • Over 2,000 universities and institutions accept GMAT scores for admission to more than 6,000 graduate management programmes.
  • GMAT can be taken up to 5 times in a year and each attempt must be with a gap of 16 days gap. GMAT is a computer adaptive test and not a computer-based test.
  • The candidates who opt for the exam will get one question at a time and depend upon the accuracy of the previous answer, the difficulty of the next question will be prepared.
  • The candidate can take the exam no more than five times within a 12 month period.

mini-GMAT Exam 2018

GMAT has recently introduced 'Executive Assessment exam' also known as mini-GMAT. This test is specially designed for candidates who want to pursue EMBA (Executive MBA). The mini-GMAT exam tests the applicants’ analytical and logical thinking only and is of shorter duration. The application fee for mini-GMAT is same as that of the GMAT Application fee.

GMAT Test Dates are available throughout the year. To fix the test centre, the candidates must search for a convenient testing location that has available seats before registering for GMAT exam. The candidate needs to type the name of their convenient test centre and click on search.

GMAT Eligibility criteria

  • Age: The minimum age limit to appear for GMAT exam is at least 18 years of age. There is no upper age limit for GMAT exam.
  • Academic Qualification: The candidate must be a Graduate from any of the recognised board or University.
  • The candidate must have a proficiency in English Language.

In addition to the aforementioned criteria, the candidates are advised to check eligibility criteria of College/University in which he/she wish to apply.

GMAT Exam is open throughout the year in all over the country. The candidates can take the GMAT exam and showcase their talent to take admission in the top class Business school anywhere across the world. The candidates need to register themselves on the official website of the GMAT.

GMAT Registration Process

The candidate will find many options after opening the GMAT Online Registration Page. They are as follows:

Scheduling the GMAT Exam: The candidate needs to search for a convenient testing location that has available seats before scheduling their dates for GMAT test. The candidate needs to pay the GMAT registration fee of 250 USD or equivalent to Rs. 16000 (approx). 

The deadline for admission into the various Management Program varies in different Universities/Institutions, so the candidate must fix their GMAT exam date in such as way so as to report their GMAT scores before the deadline of application.

Cancellation and Rescheduling GMAT Exam 2018

Cancelling the GMAT Exam: The candidate can also cancel their GMAT exam if they want to change their schedule. The candidate will receive a partial refund of US$80 if they cancel their exam before seven days of the scheduled test. If they cancel within seven days before the scheduled date and time then there will be no refund of fees.

  • If the candidates miss their scheduled GMAT exam, their registration fees will be forfeited and cancellation refund amount is subject to change without notice and according to local law.

GMAT Exam Scheduling

Reschedule the GMAT exam: The candidate can reschedule their GMAT exam according to their convenient days. If the candidate reschedules their exam 7 days before their previous scheduled test date they need to pay US$60, each time they reschedule. If they reschedule their exam within 7 days before their previous scheduled date and time then they need to pay an amount of US$250.

GMAT Exam Retake

The candidate can retake the GMAT exam once within a gap of 16 days but not more than 5 attempts in a year. In the scheduling tool if the candidate enters a date that is less than 16 days gap from the last appointment date, then they will receive an error message and they can choose any other date.

GMAT Fees

GMAT Registration Fee: 250 USD or Rs. 16000 Approx.

The application fee can be paid either by Credit Card or Debit Card or through Cashier’s check, Money Order, and Personal Check. However, it is to be noted that if the GMAT Registration fee is paid offline then the payment must be received 10 days before examination appointment.

GMAT Scores will enable the candidates who have appeared in the GMAT test to know their skills and abilities in a better way. There will be five GMAT scores namely Analytical Writing Assessment, Integrated Reasoning, Quantitative, Verbal, and Total.

Comprehending the GMAT score Report: The GMAT Scores of the candidates include all GMAT Scores from the tests taken in last 5 years. Apart from the GMAT scores, the official scores report includes:

  • Digital photographs taken at the test centre.
  • Telephone number, undergraduate institution, Grade Point Average (GPA) and intended graduate study
  • The Percentile marks: The percentile marks of GMAT exam are given below:

Each of the five GMAT scores is reported on a fixed scale, the various processes involved in GMAT scores are as follows:

Assessing and getting the GMAT score report: A unique link will be sent to the email of the candidates who have appeared for the GMAT test as and when the GMAT scores becomes reportable. The scores are available within 20 days of the scheduled test.

Sending the GMAT scores to the Business Schools: The candidates must select the programs very wisely and carefully in which they want to receive their GMAT scores. The programs selected once by the candidates cannot be changed or deleted. The GMAT Scores are available within 20 days of the scheduled test which is covered under the registration fees.

  • In case of Additional Score Report,  the candidates need to send an extra fee to send an additional score report. In case the candidate who have not selected any programs in order to receive their scores on the day of the test, or if they want to send their scores to additional programs, they may order Additional Score reports for a fee. Once the scores are available, additional score reports are sent within seven days; non-US test takers should allow for a more duration to receive their scores.

Evaluation of GMAT Scores

GMAT Scores is based on Verbal and Quantitative scores; Analytical writing assessment and Integrated Reasoning scores do not affect the total scores.

Total, Verbal and Analytical scores: GMAT scores range from 200-800 and two-thirds of the test takers score between 400-600. Verbal and quantitative scores range

  • Verbal and Quantitative score ranges are on a fixed scale and can be compared across all GMAT test administrations but they can never be compared with each other as they have different constructs.
  • If the candidates do not finish in the amount of time given, their scores will be calculated based on the number of questions answered as long as they have worked on each section. The scores of the candidates will decrease with each question being unanswered.

Analytical Writing Assessment scores: The Analytical Writing scores (AWA) scores is based on one Analysis of an argument essay. Essays are scored independently twice and then averaged. The AWA scores

  • Each essay receives two independent ratings, one of which is performed by an automated essay-scoring engine, which evaluates more than 50 structure and linguistics features. If two ratings differ by more than one point, an expert reader provides the third evaluation to determine the final score.

Integrated Reasoning (IR) Score:   IR score ranges from 1 to 8 single-digit intervals and no partial credit is given. The IR designated questions require more than 1 answer because the questions are made in order to know how well the data are integrated in order to solve complex problems. In such case, the candidates must answer all responses to the questions correctly in order to get credit. 

Evaluation of GMAT Scores by the Business School

GMAT scores are used by the Business school to measure the skills that help students to succeed in MBA and other Graduate Business Programs. Each Business school has their own way of evaluating the GMAT Scores of the candidates. There are no “passing” or “failing” GMAT scores.
