About Indian National Olympiad (INO)

Indian National Olympiad (INO) 2018 Programme refers to systematic activity supported by the Government of India to select and train Indian teams for various International Olympiads. Candidates who willing to participate in the Indian National Olympiad (INO) 2018 are required to clear the first stage i.e. NSE (National Standard Examination). The National Standard Examination is conducted by Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). Candidates who cleared the first stage will be eligible to participate in the second stage i.e. Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC).

In the Orientation Cum Selection Camp which is conducted by HBCSE, students are trained by subject experts and marked on their performance in both theory and practical experiments. The duration of the camp is generally somewhere between 1 and 2 weeks. The schedule of OCSC is given below, scroll the page to view the schedule.

Details

Eligibility for Astronomy / Biology / Chemistry / Physics

  • Candidate must be an Indian citizen.
  • Candidate’s Date of Birth has to be between 1 July 1998 and 30 June 2003, both days inclusive.
  • The candidate must not have completed Class 12 examination earlier than 30 November 2017.
  • The candidates must not have pursued (or planning to commence) studies in a university or equivalent institution by 1 June 2018.
  • Candidates must not be appearing in NSEJS 2017.

Eligibility for Junior Science

  • Candidate must be an Indian citizen
  • Candidate's Date of birth between 1 January 2003 and 31 December 2004, both days inclusive
  • Candidate must not have completed (or scheduled to complete) Class 10 examination before 30 November 2017.
  • Candidate must not be appearing in any of NSEA, NSEB, NSEC or NSEP 2017.

Indian National Olympiad (INO) Reward

Travel Allowance

  • Candidates whose residence is at a distance of less than 100 km from INO centre will be deemed local. Students residing beyond 100 km from the INO centre will be deemed outstation.
  • Local candidates will get a fixed amount of Rs. 150 per day and outstation candidates will get a fixed amount of Rs. 600 as travel allowance.
  • Candidates from north-eastern states are encouraged to select Guwahati as the examination centre. In case Kolkata is the allotted/chosen centre, such students are entitled to Air Travel (Economy Class) by Air India from the nearest airport to Kolkata.
  • Overseas students are not entitled to any traveling allowance.

Accommodation and Boarding

  • No accommodation and boarding will be provided by the local Centre Coordinator for the outstation candidates. However, the Centre Coordinator will try to assist with information about accommodation.
  • Outstation candidates will get a fixed lodging and boarding allowance of Rs.450 per day. No expenses for lodging and boarding for local candidates will be provided.

Candidates have to fill the online application form to participate in the INO 2018. The application process of INO 2018 is open. If the candidate has qualified for INO 2018 in one or more subjects, please login using your NSE Roll No. and date of birth. INO 2018 Hall Ticket


Candidates are required to affix their recent passport size photograph in the space provided on the INO 2018 Hall Ticket and bring it at the time of every examination session as applicable in your case. Candidates should also carry a photo ID such as Passport, Adhar Card, etc. as a proof of their identity and date of birth. This hall ticket must be preserved and must be presented at the time of OCSC.

INO 2018 Roll Number


Candidate's INO 2018 Roll Number is specified on their Hall Ticket. The roll no. in INO 2018 Hall Ticket is different from the NSE Roll Number. This new Roll Number must be written correctly on all the pages of your INO Question Paper, Answer sheet and performance card and all further correspondence.

Indian National Olympiad (INO) Selection Process

Candidates who willing to represent India in the International Olympiad in the field of Junior Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Astronomy, and Math are required to clear all national level stages. Such candidates have to clear the NSE examination which is conducted by Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT). Successful candidates will move to the second stage i.e. INO (Indian National Olympiad). Those candidates who will perform well in the INO will be moved to next stage i.e. Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC) which is conducted by HBCSE. In OCSC, candidates will be trained by subject experts and marked on their performance in both theory and practical experiments. And few candidates from OCSC will be selected for representing India in International Olympiad.

Indian National Olympiad (INO)

All candidates selected to appear for INOs must register themselves on HBCSE’s INO registration portal. Only the registered candidate will be issued letter of selection and admit card for INO.

In the case of Maths subject, the steps included will be Pre RMO, RMO, INMO, IMOTC, and lastly IMO.

INO Syllabus

  • Biology / Chemistry / Physics: The syllabus for INO is broadly equivalent to the senior secondary level (up to Class XII) of CBSE in the respective subject.
  • Astronomy: The syllabus for INAO is broadly equivalent to the senior secondary level (up to Class XII) of CBSE in Physics and Mathematics (calculus not included), elementary popular astronomy and basic knowledge of night sky observation.
  • Junior Science: The syllabus for INJSO is broadly equivalent to the secondary level (up to Class X) of CBSE.
  • For all the INOs, questions and problems are usually non-conventional and of high difficulty level, comparable to International Olympiads.

Other Important Details related to INO 2018

  • Candidates who considered for selection to the Indian team for international Olympiad must have a valid Indian Passport before the beginning of the respective Orientation-cum-Selection Camp (OCSC). The expiry date of passport should be no sooner than six months after the conclusion of the relevant International Olympiad.
  • In addition, the selection of the members to the Indian team is subject to satisfying requirements such as age limit, parental and institutional consent, etc.
  • It is the student's responsibility to determine that he/she satisfies eligibility norms. If at some later stage it is found that the student does not meet eligibility norms, he/she may face disqualification from the programme. The student will be required to provide a copy of her/his valid Indian passport at the beginning of OCSC, should the student be selected for OCSC.
  • In Astronomy/ Biology/ Chemistry/ Physics INO exams candidates can carry Non-programmable scientific calculators.
  • In Junior Science INO exam, No calculator of any kind will be allowed.
  • No other computational aid or electronic equipment such as Graphing Calculators, Mobile phones, Smart-watches, Pagers, log tables, slide rules etc. are allowed.
