PM Fellowship announces stipend of Rs 80,000 per month - This scheme is beneficial for the students of higher education institutions such as IITs, NITs and IISERs which will help them to carry out the research indigenously in science and technology. Union Cabinet Minister has approved the Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme. The basic objective of this scheme is to encourage industry-oriented research among students. PM Fellowship Scheme - Objective and Advantages
With the help of this scheme, the government is objecting to encourage the research enthusiasm among the students. Under the scheme, graduates or final-year students of B.Tech, Integrated M.Tech or M.Sc in Science and Technology streams at the IISc, IITs, NITs, IISERs and IIITs will be offered direct admissions to PhD programmes at IITs and the IISc.
The shortlisted students will offer a fellowship as given below and moreover, the research grant of Rs 2 lakh each will also be provided to the fellows for a period of five years to cover foreign travel expenses for presenting research papers at international conferences and seminars.
Amount of Fellowships offered to the shortlisted students
- Rs 70,000 a month in the first two years
- Rs 75,000 per month in the third year
- Rs 80,000 per month in the fourth and the fifth years.
PM Fellowship Scheme - How the students will be Benefited?
Prime Minister Research Fellowship Scheme is for 1000 B.Tech students for pursuing PhD courses at IITs and IISc. According to Union HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar “The scheme will go a long way in tapping the talent pool of the country for carrying out research in science and technology domains." Further, he added that research under the scheme will address national priorities as well as the shortage of quality faculty members at premier educational institutions in the country.
