About 16th National Cyber Olympiad

16th National Cyber Olympiad (NCO) 2016 will be conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) this year. SOF is a non-profit organisation which conducts various Olympiads throughout the year. The main objective of SOF is having a large, exclusive scientific and IT talent pool for the future is seeking out, identifying young geniuses and providing them with a unique competitive platform where they can prove themselves. This page gives the complete information about the 16th NCO Cyber Olympiad (NCO) 2016.

Four Olympiads are organised every year by Science Olympiad Foundation, and the names of the Olympiads are as follow:

  • In 2014-15, students from 31,500 schools from 14000 cities participated in various Olympiads organised by SOF.

16th NCO Cut off marks has released on the website of Science Olympiad Foundation. National Cyber Olympiad- NCO 2016

  • National Cyber Olympiad (NCO) is a unique and most prestigious Cyber Olympiad in Asia.
  • Students from class 2 to12 appear in the Olympiad examination, initially conducted at their school and based on the result of the examination they are ranked at various levels.
  • Cyber Quotient (CQ): It gives the Score, School Rank, City Rank, State Rank, International Rank and Percentile of the participating candidates, along with a Participation Certificate.
  • School Cyber Quotient (SSQ): Science Olympiad Foundation generates a performance report for all participating schools, in which they are ranked according to the performance of their students.
  • NCO 2016 Exam Date: National Cyber Olympiad will be conducted on two dates that is October 13 & 20, 2016 as per the school convenience.

  • Educational Qualification: NCO is open for students from class 2 to class 12.
  • Minimum Registrations: Minimum 10 students are required to register from each school.
  • No Individual Application: SOF does not offer individual applications. The applications of the participating students need to be forwarded through their respective schools.

Consolation Prize: Special awards consisting gifts worth Rs.1000/ and Merit Certificates will be given to all the students scoring 100% marks in the 2nd level exams of National Cyber Olympiad.

16th NCO 1st Level Exam Awards

  • Gold Medal: Gold medal and Merit Certificates will be given to top ten rank holders from each class.
  • These awards will be given to the winners from 20 Zones/States for their performance in the 1st level Olympiads.

Important note related to the 16th NCO 1st level Awards:

  • Only one award will be given to each winner.
  • Therefore, top 3 rank holders will get the awards based on their International ranks.
  • The award for them in the state ranks will be offered to the next rank holder.

Other Benefits to the Students participating in 16th National Cyber Olympiad (NCO)

  • Participation Certificate: Certificate of Participation to all students.
  • Merit Certificate: Certificate of merit to all 2nd level qualifiers.
  • Trophy for the School: The school of Top Three International Rank holders will get a Cyber Intellect Trophy (CIT) for having the winning students on their rolls.

16th National Cyber Olympiad Application form and Process

The Candidates willing to participate in National Cyber Olympiad need to forward their application in the prescribed format through their School.

No Individual Participation will be accepted. 

The Details regarding the application process is as follow:

  • Registration of the School: For being associated with SOF and to nominate students for Olympiad Exam, the details of the school need to be forwarded to SOF in the following manner “School Name: Postal Address, E-mail: Principal’s name, phone number & e-mail ID”
  • Documents related to Examination: Document related to the Examination such as Registration sheet for the school/students and the information booklet for the Olympiad will be posted to the schools all over India and abroad.
  • Responsibility of coordinating Teacher: It will be the responsibility of the school's coordinating teacher to follow the guidelines and generate the Roll Number of the students.
  • Last date of Submission of Documents: A copy of school’s registration sheet, student’s registration sheet along with a copy of the roll numbers of the students need to be sent to the Foundation’s office before the last date of submission.

16th National Cyber Olympiad Fee

Participation Fee: A participation fee of Rs.120 need to be paid by the student, out of which Rs.20 per student will be retained by the school for its exam related Expenses.

16th National Cyber Olympiad Selection Process

The selection for National Cyber Olympiad is done on the basis of the examination i.e. Level 1 & Level 2.

  • Top 500 international rank holders and top 10 state rank holders in NCO Level 1 will be eligible for level 2 examination.

16th NCO Level 1 Examination

The level 1 of National Cyber Olympiad will be conducted in the respective schools of the participants in the school timings.

  • Duration: The duration of Level 1 written objective type test will be of 60 minutes.
  • Number of Questions: The students of class 2-4 need to answer 35 objective type multiple choice questions and the students of class 5-12 will have to answer 50 objective type multiple choice questions.
  • Types of questions: The question paper will consist of three sections:
    • Computer and Information Technology
    • Logical and Analytical Reasoning
    • Achievers’ Section.
  • There are separate question papers for each class.
  • Medium of Question papers: The Question paper will be available only in English. 
  • Syllabus: The question paper of NCO level 1 Exam will be based on CBSE, ICSE/ISC and State Board syllabus for the respective classes.

16th NCO Level 2 Examination

The qualifiers for the second round will be selected on the following criterions:

  • Class wise top 5% candidates who appeared for the Level 1 of the National Cyber Olympiad.
  • Each section of the question paper will have separate weightage and due weightage will be given to marks scored in different sections.
  • Zonal wise top 25 rank holders.
  • Class topper where at least 10 students from a class appear in the exam & score 50% qualifying marks.

The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) has released the 16th NCO Cut-off marks on its official website. The cutoff marks given is of top 5% of the 1st level. Candidates are advised to see the table below to check the 16th NCO 1st level cut off marks.

NCO 1st level Cutoff - Important points to be remember

  • Candidates scoring total cut off marks or more will qualify for the 2nd level NCO.
  • In case of two or more candidates achieve same total marks, then the  M3, M2 and M1 sections  will be given higher weightage to determine ranks and 2nd level qualifications.
  •  In addition to above, the following students will also qualify for the 2nd level:
    • Top 25 rank holders from each Zone and each class
    • Class toppers, they need to fulfil following conditions:
      • The class must have 10 or more participants.
      • Class topper has scored 50% or more marks
