About NSO (National Science Olympiad)

SOF NSO Level 2 Result has been announced. Students can check the NSO result by following the link given below.

NSO 2019 (National Science Olympiad) registration is done through school only and students cannot apply to the Olympiad at Individual level. National Science Olympiad is an annual scholarship exam conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation which is a non-profit organisation. National Science Olympiad is a multi-level Olympiad and has 10 lakh applicants annually. NSO Level 1 exam will be conducted on various dates. The candidates from class 1 to 12 are eligible to apply for NSO 2019 Level 1 exam whereas, the NSO Level 1 qualified students from class 3 to 12 are only eligible to appear in NSO Level 2 Exam. NSO 2019 Exam BY SOF (Science Olympiad Foundation)

National Science Olympiad is one of the most prestigious science olympiads in Asia. It gives the Science Quotient (SQ), giving their Score, School Rank, City Rank, State Rank, International Rank, and Percentile, as well as a Certificate of Participation. Science Olympiad Foundation also generates a performance report for all participating schools, known as School Science Quotient (SSQ).

NSO 2019 Exam Date: 11& 21 November 2019, as per the dates are chosen by the school.

27000 schools participated in various Olympiads conducted by SOF and students from close to 1350 cities and 16 countries participated. In 2014-15, 31500 schools participated in various Olympiads and students in more than 1400 cities participated in it.

NSO (National Science Olympiad) Eligibility Criteria

The candidates participating in NSO Olympiad have to fulfil the eligibility criteria set for NSO Exam. Given below is a table showing the criteria set for SOF NSO 2018.

  • Minimum of 10 students need to be registered from each school for feasibility reasons.
  • Students should be registered through the schools only. Individual registration by the student is not accepted by SOF for the NSO 2018 Participation.

NSO (National Science Olympiad) Reward

The top performers of NSO 2019 will be given various awards for their good performance. Along with awards, cash prizes will also be given to the top performers in the NSO Exam. NSO 1st Level Exam Awards (For Class 1 and 2)

  •  Gold Medal: Gold medal and Merit Certificates will be given to top ten rank holders from each class.
  • These awards will be given to the winners from 20 Zones/States for their performance in the 1st level National Science Olympiad.
  • Only one award will be given to each winner for NSO Olympiad.
  • Therefore, the top 3 rank holders will get the awards based on their International ranks.
  • The award for them in the state ranks will be offered to the next rank holder.
  • Participation Certificate: Certificate of Participation to all students.
  • Student Performance Report (SPR) for each participating student.
  • Medals to Class Toppers.

NSO (National Science Olympiad) Application form and Process

NSO Registration is open to the students of classes 1 to 12 and registrations are received from the schools in the prescribed proforma below. Registration form for National Science Olympiad is also available below. The last date to apply for NSO 2019 is 31 August 2019.

  • Registration sheet for the school/students and the information booklet are posted to the schools all over India and abroad.
  • The school's coordinating teacher will be generating the students' Roll Numbers as per the guidelines.
  • A copy of these roll numbers along with the students' registration and school registration sheet should be sent to the Foundation's office before 31 August 2019.

NSO 2019 Registration Fee

A participation fee of Rs. 125 is charged from each student for NSO 2019. The School shall retain Rs. 25 per student per National Science Olympiad for its expenses as exam centre.

NSO (National Science Olympiad) Selection Process

  • National Science Olympiad (NSO) is conducted in two levels: Level 1 and  Level 2.
  • Top 500 international ranks and top 10 state rank in NSO 2019 stage 1 are eligible for level 2 exam

NSO Level 1 Exam

 The first level of National Science Olympiad is organised in the respective schools of the participants during the school hours.

  • The NSO 2019 level 1 competition is a written objective type test of 60 minutes duration comprising 35/50 objective type (Multiple Choice) questions for class 1 to class 12.
  • The question paper consists of Science and Mental Ability section.
  • There are separate question papers for each class.
  • The medium of the test is English.
  • CBSE, ICSE/ISC, and State Board syllabus is followed for setting the test papers.
  • The exam is conducted during school hours.

NSO Level 2 Exam

  •  The qualifiers of the second round would include the following:
  • Top 5% of candidates class wise who appear for the 1st level National Science Olympiad.Due weightage to marks scored in different sections will be given. Each section is accorded separate weightage.
  • Top 25 rank holders class wise & Zone wise
  • Class topper where at least ten students from a class appear in the exam & score 50% qualifying marks.

NSO Cut off Marks - 1st Level

The Science Olympiad Foundation (SOF) releases NSO Cut-off marks on its official website. The cutoff marks given is of the top 5% of the 1st level National Science Olympiad. Candidates are advised to see the table below to check the previous year NSO 1st level cut off marks.

The section-wise cutoff for NSO 1st level (Previous year) is given in the table below. Candidates will be selected on the basis of these cutoffs only. Candidates are advised to see the section-wise weightage decided for each category in the following table

NSO Cut off Marks - Important Points to remember

Given below are some important points to remember related to cut off marks in the National Science Olympiad 

  • The student scoring total cut off marks or more will qualify for the second level NSO 2019.
  • In case two or more students achieve the same total marks, higher weightage will be given to M3, M2, and M1 sections respectively to determine ranks and 2nd level qualifications.
  • In addition to the above, the following students will also qualify for the 2nd level NSO 2019:
    • Top 25 rank holders from each zone and each class and 
    • Class toppers provided they fulfil the following conditions:
      • The class must have 10 or more participants
      • Class topper has scored 50% or more marks

NSO 2019 Syllabus

The syllabus of the National Science Olympiad is the syllabus as prescribed by the CBSE, ICSE and various state boards. The questions of NSO level - 1 Olympiad exams will be 60% from the current class syllabus and remaining 40% come from the previous class syllabus. For example, Class 7 NSO 2019 exam will have 60% questions from the syllabus of class 7 and 40% questions will come from the syllabus of class 6. The SOF NSO syllabus usually includes basic subjects like Science, Maths and Logical Reasoning. According to the SOF NSO Exam Syllabus for Class 1 to 10 the questions will be from the several subjects like Science, Logical Reasoning and the Achiever's section while Physics and Chemistry, Achievers Section and Mathematics/ Biology will be used to design the NSO question paper for Class 11 and Class 12.

  • The questions of level - 2 Olympiad exams will be from the syllabus of current class only.
  • The questions in ACHIEVERS SECTION will also come from the syllabus of current class only.

NSO Sample Papers - National Science Olympiad Question Papers

 By the help of SOF NSO Sample Papers, the candidates are going to appear for the National Science Olympiads will be able to prepare for the exam in a better way. It will help them in various ways. The candidates will be able to get clear with the exam pattern, exam structure, type of questions asked in the NSO 2019 exam, and important topics. By practising the NSO Sample papers or previous year NSO Question papers, the candidates will be able to improve their speed and also able to finish the paper on time. While practising, they will be able to analyze the strength and weakness so that they can work on their weakness.

NSO Answer Key

NSO Answer Keys for the National Science Olympiad can be checked by the candidates after the commencement of the exam. The SOF NSO Answer Key will help the candidates in calculating their probable score before the announcement of result. They can calculate their marks by comparing their marked answers with answers mentioned in the answer key. The candidates who will appear in the SOF NSO 2019 exam conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation will be able to check the answer keys and tally their scores to judge their performance. The answer keys will be released for both SET A and B. The candidates can check the NSO Answer Keys for the Class 1 to 12.

NSO (National Science Olympiad) Mock Test

NSO Mock Tests are specially designed for National Science Olympiad Preparation. The NSO Mock Test paper is free for all the students who are preparing for the SOF NSO 2019 Exam. The NSO Mock Test paper generally has 50 questions which are objective type MCQs and the duration of the mock test is 60 minutes. There are total of 50 questions including all sections in the SOF NSO Mock Test. These tests help the students in getting an accurate idea of the types of questions asked in the National Science Olympiad and it also helps in managing their timing and improving accuracy.

NSO 2019 Result

The NSO Result is declared within 8 weeks of the commencement of the National Science Olympiad examination. The results are sent to the concerned schools. The NSO Results is also made available on the official website of SOF website. The students who will appear in the NSO 2019 exam will be able to check their SOF NSO Result by entering their Roll number, School Code, Class Number in a prescribed format. Top 5% class wise students who qualify the NSO Level 1 exam will qualify for NSO level-2 exam. The NSO level 2 result will also be published on the official website
