About NID 2017-18

NID 2017 Entrance Exam will be conducted in the first week January 2018, by NID Ahmedabad. National Institute of Design Entrance Examination is conducted annually by NID Ahmedabad for seeking admissions to various design courses at National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Application to NID Ahmedabad for the academic year 2018-19 will start from October 3rd week 2017. NID Offers Bachelor of Design (B.Des. 4 years) course at NID Ahmedabad. This page gives the detail regarding the NID 2017 Admission.

  • Students after Class 12 or equivalent like AISSCE/ IB/ ISC are eligible to apply for the B.Design Course. 
  • NID Admission will be done on the basis of the two-stage competitive exam as follows:
    • Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims: DAT Prelims is the first stage which will be conducted in the first week of January 2018.
    • Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains: This is the second stage, and the shortlisted candidates only appear at this stage, which will be conducted from May 2nd week 2018.
    • NID Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Stage 1 of the Exam will be conducted in 23 cities, and Stage 2 will be conducted only in Ahmedabad, Bengaluru or Gandhinagar.

About NID Ahmedabad

NID 2017-18 Eligibility criteria

B.Design Eligibility

Educational Qualification: Admission is open to students who have passed or who will appear for qualifying examinations under the Higher Secondary (10+2) or equivalents like AISSCE/ IB/ ISC during the month of March/April 2017.

Age: Upper age limit for candidates is 20 years (relaxable by 3 years for reserved categories) as on 1 July 2018.

  • For General Category: The candidates born before June 1, 1998, are not eligible.
  • For Reserved Categories: The candidates born before June 1, 1995, are not eligible.

M.Design Eligibility

  • Candidates having a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent including those who will be appearing for the qualifying examinations during the academic year (2017-18) in the areas mentioned against each discipline are eligible to apply for M.Des. Courses.

The NID application process will start from the third week of October 2018. The candidates who are willing to get admission in the NID to pursue B.Des and M.Des have to fill the application form. The candidates can fill only online application. NID Exam Centres 


NID Design Aptitude Test will be conducted in multiple centres across India. The exam is scheduled to be conducted in the 23 cities across multiple centres and the candidates can give the preference of the test centres while filling up the application. The final allotment of the test centre will be written on the admit card.

NID Admit Card/ Hall Ticket 2017

NID Admit Card 2017 will be available online on the official website of NID. The admit card is a very important document and without it, the candidates will not be allowed to appear in the exam. The candidates have to download the admit card and bring it on the day of the NID exam. NID Admit Card 2017 for B.Des and M.Des will be available on the following dates:

NID 2017-18 Fees

NID Application Fee is different for all the categories. The candidates belonging to the respective categories must pay their application fee. The fee has to be paid through online mode only that is  Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking.

NID 2017-18 Result and Counselling

The Selection of NID comprises two phases:

First phase: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims

Candidates have to take the written examination called as Design Aptitude Test (DAT) and based on marks obtained in DAT will be called for a further round of the second phase.

  • Admit for the second phase of the NID Entrance Exam will be available from February 3rd week 2018 for M.Des and March 1st week 2018 for B.Des.
  • NID Admission Committee systematically seeks evidence of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation of candidate, essential for a challenging and satisfying design career.

Second phase: Design Aptitude test (DAT) Mains 

  • This is the second stage and the shortlisted candidates only appear at this stage, which will be conducted from May 3rd week 2018.

Reservation:15% of seats of B.Design will be reserved for overseas students.

NID Result 2017 

  • Based on the scores obtained in DAT (stage 1), separate merit lists shall be prepared for each category.
  • Number of candidates shortlisted for Stage 2: From the total number of applicants who have appeared for DAT, the Number of candidates to be called for Stage 2 of the exam will be calculated
  • NID Final Merit List: The final merit list for B.Des. the programme will be generated category wise, based on the sum total of the weighted scores obtained by the candidate in each stage of the admissions process.

NID 2017-18 Exam pattern

Duration of NID Exam: There will be ONE question paper of 3 hours duration.

Mode of Exam: Pen and Paper Based exam

Medium of Exam: English

Total Questions: 100 questions. All questions are compulsory.

  • The question paper will consist of both objective and subjective type questions.
  • Section A carrying 70 marks will be of multiple choice objective type questions
  • Section B carrying 30 marks will be for subjective type questions.

Negative Marking: There will be no negative marking.
