About NID 2018

NID 2018 DAT Entrance Exam will be conducted on 7 January 2018 by NID Ahmedabad. National Institute of Design conducts an entrance examination named DAT every year for the admission into the design courses offered by National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Application to NID DAT Ahmedabad for the academic year 2018-19 has started from 25 September 2017. NID Offers Bachelor of Design (B.Des. 4 years) course at NID Ahmedabad. This page gives the detail regarding the NID 2018-19 admission.

Students after Class 12 or equivalent like AISSCE/ IB/ ISC are eligible to apply for the B.Design Course which is a 4 years course. M.Design is a 2.5 years course. NID Admission will be done on the basis of the two-stage competitive exam as follows:

  • Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims: DAT Prelims is the first stage which will be conducted on 7 January 2018
  • Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Mains: This is the second stage, and the shortlisted candidates only appear at this stage, which will be conducted from 15 to 22 May 2017.

About NID Ahmedabad

NID 2018 Eligibility criteria

To get admission into design courses into National Institute of Design through an entrance exam known as DAT conducted annually by NID Ahmedabad. Before proceeding further for the admission, the candidates are suggested to ensure their eligibility. The age limitation and education qualification required for admission into B.Design and Graduate Diploma Programme in Design (GDPD) is given below.

Age Criteria for NID Admission

For Indian Nationals in General Category
  • Upper age limit: 20 years as on 30 June 2018.
  • Candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible for admission
For Indian Nationals in Reserved Category (OBC-NCL, SC, ST)
  • Upper Age limit: 23 years as on 30 June 2018
  • Candidates born after 1 July 1995 are eligible to apply for admission.
For Indian Nationals in PwD Reserved Category
  • Upper Age Limit: 25 years as on 30 June 2018
  • Candidates born after 1 July 1993 are eligible to apply for admission.
For Foreign Nationals in Overseas (Supernumerary) Category
  • Upper Age Limit: 20 years as on 30 June 2018
  • Candidates born on or after 1 July 1998 are eligible to apply

 

Education Qualification

  • The candidates who have passed the higher secondary (10+2) qualifying examinations in the academic year 2017-18 in any stream from recognised board of education such as CBSE, IB, ICSE or their equivalent
  • The candidates who are appearing in the higher secondary (10+2) examination in the academic year 2017-18 are also eligible to apply for the admission. Although, they have to provide the proof of having appeared for the examination by the time of online document verification.

The NID application process for the admission into B.Des and GDPD has started from 25 September 2017. The candidates who are willing to get admission in the NID to pursue B.Des, M.Des and GDPD have to fill the application form. The candidates can fill only online application. NID DAT Admit Card 2018 will be available online only. The admit card is a very important document and without it, the candidates will not be allowed to appear in the exam. The candidates have to download the admit card and bring it on the day of the NID exam. NID Admit Card 2018 for B.Des, M.Des and GDPD will be available on the following dates:

NID 2018 Fees

NID Application Fee is different for all the categories. The candidates belonging to the respective categories must pay their application fee. The fee has to be paid through online mode only that is  Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking.

NID 2018 Result and Counselling

After conducting the DAT prelim exam, the candidates will be shortlisted to appear into the DAT Mains. The weightage of both, DAT Prelims and DAT Mains will decide the admission of the candidates into NID. The result of the DAT prelim will be declared on 13 March 2018 and the final merit list will be prepared on 31 May 2018.

Selection Process for NID

There are two phases of getting selection into National Institute of Design (NID). The two of the phases are given below.

First phase: Design Aptitude Test (DAT) Prelims

  • Candidates have to take the written examination called as Design Aptitude Test (DAT) and based on marks obtained in DAT will be called for a further round of the second phase.
  • NID Admission Committee systematically seeks evidence of the perception, attitude, aptitude, achievement and motivation of candidate, essential for a challenging and satisfying design career.

Second phase: Design Aptitude test (DAT) Mains 

  • After clearing the DAT Prelims, the candidates will be shortlisted to appear in DAT Mains. This is the second stage and the shortlisted candidates only appear at this stage, which will be conducted from 15 to 22 May 2017

Reservation:15% of seats of B.Design will be reserved for overseas students.

Note: The candidates who have appeared for all the tests in both the stages will be considered eligible for the merit list.

NID 2018 Exam pattern

Duration of NID Exam: There will be ONE question paper of 3 hours duration.

Mode of Exam: Pen and Paper Based exam

Medium of Exam: English

Negative Marking: There will be no negative marking.

Total Questions: 100 questions. All questions are compulsory.

  • The question paper will consist of both objective and subjective type questions.
  • Section A carrying 70 marks will be of multiple choice objective type questions
  • Section B carrying 30 marks will be for subjective type questions.

Successful candidates admitted to NID’s B.Des. the programme will have to undergo a mandatory foundation programme of one (1) year duration. 

NID Exam Centres 


NID Design Aptitude Test will be conducted in multiple centres across India. The exam is scheduled to be conducted in the 23 cities across multiple centres and the candidates can give the preference of the test centres while filling up the application. The final allotment of the test centre will be written on the admit card.
