About Indian Council of Agriculture Research (ICAR) Entrance Exam 2014

  •  Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) conducts all india entrance exam for Bachelor degree programmes in agriculture and allied subjects  (other than Veterinary Science) in Agricultural Universities.
  • This is the 19th All India Entrance Examination for Admission (AIEEA-UG-2014) to 15% seats Agriculture Universities in Bachelor Degree programmes and and 100% seats in Dairy Technology at NDRI Karnal for academic session 2014-2015
  • ICAR’s 19th AIEEA-UG-2014 examination for the academic session 2014-15 will be conducted at 46 examination city centres spread all over the country.
  • The institutes under ICAR AU are- 66 agriculture universities that are: 
    • 56 State Agricultural, Veterinary, Horticulture and Fishery universities.
    • 1 Central Agriculture University, Imphal
    • 4 ICAR Deemed Universities ( IARI, IVRI, NDRI, CIFE)
    • 4 Central University having agriculture faculty ( BHU, AMU, Vishwa Bharti & Nagaland University)
    • 1 Sam Higginbottom Institute of Agriculture

The Courses eligible for admission:

  • The Entrance Exam gives Admissions to 11 Bachelor degree programmes of four years duration in the subjects and are categorized into two Streams viz.
  • Stream-A: Agriculture/Biology
    • Agrculture
    • Horticulture
    • Fisheries
    • Forestry
    • Home Sciences
    • Sericulture
    • Bio- Technology
  • Stream-B: Mathematics
    • Agriculture Engineering
    • Dairy Technology
    • Food Sciences
    • Agriculture Marketing and Co-operation
  • The candidate has a right to exercise option only for one Stream at the time of submitting the application. The option once exercised cannot be changed.
  • A candidate from Stream–A can also exercise option for admission to Food
    Science, Agricultural Marketing & Co-operation whereas candidate from
    Stream-B can also opt for admission in Forestry or Biotechnology in few universities.

Who can apply – The eligibility criteria

  • Nationality: Must be an Indian National.
  • Age: 17 years of age but not more than 23 years as on August 31, 2014. No relaxation of age will be allowed to the candidates except for SC/ST/PC categories where upper age limit would be relaxable by 5 years.
  • Academic Qualification:
    • Candidate applying to Stream A- Candidate must have passed 10+2 Senior Secondary Examination of the Central Board of Secondary Education or any other examination within scope and standard found to be equivalent to the Senior Secondary Examination of an Indian Board/ University after a period of 12 years of study with Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Agriculture/Home Science
    • Candidate applying toStream B- The should have passed 10+2 examination or equivalent necessarily with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects.
    • Student appearing in class 12 or equivalent can also apply.
  • Minimum Qualifying Marks: 50% marks in aggregate for General, OBC and UPS
    categories and 40% marks in aggregate for SC, ST and PC categories.

Application process and mode of submission

Application will be allowed either on ICAR OMR application form or through an online process.

a)      Offline OMR application

  • Application, filled-in correctly in neat own handwriting of the candidate and complete in all respects, Acknowledgement card, duly affixed with postal stamp of an appropriate amount, should be submitted through Registered/Speed Post only so as to reach the given address ;

The last date for receipt of Application from the candidates residing in remote areas such
as Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh,Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim,
J&K, Lahaul and Spiti District and Pangi, Sub-division of Chamba district of Himachal
Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Island and Lakshadweep is February 14, 2014.

b)      Online application

  • The candidate has to visit www.icar.org.in and click the option of filling online application AIEEA-UG-2014.
  • The candidate can download prospectus and then fill his/her form online.
  • Candidate can either opt for making fee payment through Bank Challan of Syndicate Bank or through Credit / Debit card using Payment Gateway of Syndicate Bank/NEFT.

Fees

  • Rs. 500 for General, OBC and UPS categories
  • Rs. 250 for SC, ST and PC categories

Selection process

  • Based on the overall merit-rank:  The candidate is allowed to take admission to a specific programme at an Agricultural University as per his/her choice and availability of seat at that merit-rank through a process of counseling
  • Candidate will be recommended for admission in the subject/degree programme of choice in the Agricultural Universities on the basis of merit in the Entrance Examination and availability of seats at his/her merit-rank during counselling.

Exam pattern

  • Question paper for the examination shall be bilingual, i.e., in ENGLISH and HINDI.
  • It will have 180 multiple choice objective type questions i.e.
    • 60 questions in Physics,
    • 60 questions in Chemistry,
    • 60 questions in Agriculture/Biology/Mathematics
  • Questions will have four options each.
  • Each correctly answered question will earn four marks. 
  • There is a negative marking of one mark for each incorrect answer.

Stream–A

  • There will be questions on Biology as well as Agriculture subject, out of
    which the candidate has to choose only one subject, either Biology or Agriculture.

Stream–B

  • There will be questions on Mathematics subject.

Other important details

National Talent Scholarships (NTS) are awarded based on the AIEEA-UG examination to all those candidates who take admission outside their state of domicile.

Nomination for Admission: For admission to any Bachelor degree programme mentioned above,  there is no provision for direct nomination, so the person has to qualify this examination.
