About CENTA TPO

CENTA TPO 2018 (Teaching Professionals' Olympiad) is open to teachers across all boards, subjects, and classes. It is open to teachers of government and private schools. Registration for CENTA TPO is now open for all school teachers, principals, supplemental teachers, volunteers and fellows, B.Ed/D. Ed students and anyone interested in teaching. This is the fourth edition of CENTA TPO 2018 and is being held in 45 cities across India and two additional centres in Abu Dhabi and Dubai, with 20 subject tracks for Indian candidates and 14 for Dubai candidates.

CENTA TPO is one of the many Olympiad exams that are conducted in India. TPO 2018 is supported by The Hindu. CENTA TPO will be conducted on 8 December 2018. TPO will be conducted in three time-slots on the day of Olympiad. The Registrations for the Teachers Olympiad started in June 2018.

CENTA TPO is an objective test for Teachers. The Test will be divided into 4 sections

  • Subject Expertise
  • Classroom Communication and Professional Competencies
  • Student Assessment (subject-specific and generic)
  • Content Development (subject-specific and generic)

The teachers will be rewarded for their competencies. Primarily, it is for the school teachers or people entering this profession but any graduate applicant can appear in this Olympiad to understand their competency for Teaching.

  • TPO is quite different from the tests teachers take for regulatory requirements and it will be a 2 hours computer-based test and registration fee of TPO single test track is Rs. 590. Candidates registering before 30 June 2018 had to pay an early bird fee of Rs 500 only.
  • Olympiad will be based on the CENTA draft teacher standards. The Hindu and Michael and Susan Dell Foundation are the primary partners for TPO 2018 and Varkey Foundation, Central Square Foundation are additional supporters.

  • Nationality: Residents of India
  • Age Limit: Candidate should be at least 18 years old as on 1 January 2018
  • Academic Qualification: Graduate in any discipline OR a diploma holder in Education
  • The Olympiad is primarily for teaching professionals at the school level i.e. the school teachers, supplemental teachers at a school level, and B.Ed./D.Ed./other teaching student/graduate entering the profession.
    • But if anyone who is interested in understanding his or her own teaching competencies is welcome to participate

The toppers of each of the 17 Subject Tracks (14 subject tracks plus three Challenger tracks) will be invited to attend one of the following two prestigious international conferences, with travel and accommodation expenses sponsored:

  • Global Education & Skills Forum (GESF) 2018, by Varkey Foundation, in March 2018 in Dubai.  

National Recognition and Career Opportunities

  • The State Toppers will be profiled in The Hindu in early 2019.
  • A total of approximately 1000 winners will receive TPO Certificates from CENTA and be listed as winners on the TPO website.
    • Top 500 National Rank Holders
    • Top 20 State Rank Holders from each State/UT for which ranks are declared
    • Top 20 Subject Rank Holders from each of the 17 subject tracks.
  • Michael & Susan Dell Foundation will support the top 50 rank holders who work full-time in ‘affordable private schools’ (schools charging a student fee of less than Rs. 1500 per month), in taking up the full CENTA Certification, as ‘Social Impact Awards’

Co-Authoring a Book

  • Each of the following winners will be invited to write a chapter on great teaching practices (specific themes to be discussed later), for a book to be curated and published by Central Square Foundation!
    • Overall Top 10 national rank-holders.
    • Subject Topper for each of the 17 subject tracks.
    • 1st, 2nd and 3rd rank holders of each of the three Challenger tracks.
    • Five additional winners serving in tough socio-economic settings, as decided by a panel.

TPO Certificate for your School / Organization

  • Each school or organization which has winners in TPO 2018 (500 National Rank Holders, 20 State Rank Holders from each State/UT, 20 Subject Rank Holders from each of the 17 subject tracks*) will receive a TPO Certificate, with details about the number of the winners.

CENTA TPO Application form and Process

Candidates have to apply online using the official website of CENTA TPO 2018 presented by the Hindu. Application Process has already begun and will end in the last week of October 2018.

If the Teacher's Olympiad is not being conducted in your city, then you can choose the nearest city for the exam. The participant has to bear the travelling and accommodation cost by themselves to appear in the exam.

  • STEP 3: Test Details: Candidates can choose the city. They can also give their preference of location within each city and time slot.
  • STEP 4: Fee Submission: Candidates are required to pay on-refundable Application Fee via any one of the modes discussed below:

CENTA TPO International Test Center: Dubai and Abu Dhabi

CENTA TPO Selection Process

  • Duration of the Exam: The two-hour Computer Based test will have objective type questions including practical competencies of teaching in an innovative manner, through situation responses.
  • Time Slots: TPO will be conducted in3 time slots from 9 am to11am, 12 pm to 2 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm. For candidates living in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, the TPO will be conducted in 3 time-slots of 7:30 am to 9:30 am, 10:30 am to 12:30 pm and 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
    • The participants can give their  preference of location within each city and time slot 

CENTA TPO Exam Pattern

The questions will be based on the below mentioned three standards.

  • There are no sectional time limits and you can attempt the sections in any order
  • Standard: There are easy, moderate and difficult questions, with different marks for each.
  • There is no Negative Marking.
  • Mode: Computer-based test

CENTA TPO Syllabus

CENTA TPO Syllabus is the same NCERT Syllabus hence the candidates can refer the NCERT textbooks for any subject. The questions asked will be application-oriented and situational-based and require a good conceptual understanding of the subject.

CENTA TPO Admit Card

CENTA TPO Admit Card will be released soon by CENTA for the exam to be conducted on 9 December 2018. Candidates can download CENTA TPO Admit Card by following the steps given below

CENTA TPO Result

CENTA TPO Result will be declared in the month of January 2019. The candidate will be able to check CENTA TPO Result by logging in the website of CENTA TPO. The result will show the rank of the candidate. CENTA TPO Rank Distribution will be in the following manner

  • Subject Rank - 1 to 50 per subject track
  • Regional Rank - 1 to 50 per region
  • City Rank - 1 to 10 per city
