About KVPY

KVPY, Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana is a national fellowship programme funded by the Department of Science and Technology (DST), Government of India. The fellowship is given on the basis of a written exam followed by an interview. Every year the short notification is released on May 11 and the detailed KVPY notification is released on 2nd Sunday of July.

  • KVPY National Program is administered by Indian Institute of Science (IISc). It is funded by the Department of Science and Technology, Government of India
  • KVPY was started in 1999 to encourage students of Basic Sciences to take up research careers in Science. KVPY Program is administered by Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore (IISc Bangalore). The aim of KVPY programme is to identify school & college students with talent and aptitude for research to pursue a career in research in the areas of basic sciences, engineering, and medicine.
  • Students who are selected under the KVPY Programme as KVPY Fellow will get Contingency grants up to the pre-Ph. D Level.
  • The fellowship will be awarded based on the Aptitude Exam & Interview and KVPY 2017 Aptitude exam will be held in November 2017.
  • The Aptitude exam can be taken by students pursuing B.Sc. /B.S./ B.Stat./ B.Math./ Int. M.Sc./ M.S or  Class 11, 12 (Science Students) but the fellowship in case of school students will only be activated if they join Basic science course after Class 12.
  • KVPY Application form 2017 has to be filled online only and from this year the Aptitude test will be conducted in online mode only.

Gender Both
Region All Indian nationals (Except OCI and PIO’s)
Class/ Age Class 11, Class 12 and 1st-year students of undergraduate Programme in Basic Sciences
Details

1st year students of B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S. in Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology having an aptitude for scientific research can apply for KVPY Fellowship. There are 3 categories in which KVPY Aptitude exam would be conducted

For Stream SX: Class 12 Students

  • Candidates must be enroled in Class 12 in science during the academic year 2017-18 and should be aspiring to join an undergraduate programme in Basic Sciences like Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology (B.Sc./B.S./ B.Stat./ B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S.) during the academic year 2017-18.
  • Class 10: They must have secured a minimum of 80% in aggregate in Mathematics and Science in Class 10 board exams (70% for SC/ST/PH)
  • Class 12: They must also secure a minimum of 60% in Maths  & Science Subjects Class 12 (50% for SC/ST/PH)

For Stream SA- Class 11 Students

  • Candidates must be enrolled in Class 11 in science during the academic year 2017-18 and should be aspiring to join an undergraduate programme in Basic Sciences (B.Sc. / B.S./ B.Stat./ B.Math./ Int. M.Sc./M.S.) during the academic year 2018-19.
  • They must have secured a minimum of 80% aggregate in Mathematics and Science in Class 10 board exams (70% for SC/ST/PH)
  • Fellowship will be activated only when they enrol in an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences (B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math./Int. M.Sc./M.S.) after Class 12
  • They must also secure a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in Science subjects in Class 12 (50% for SC/ST/PH)
  • These students will be mentored for one year. The mentoring period will be at the Regional Science Camp / National Science Camp with all expenses met by KVYP.

For Stream SB 

  • Candidates must have enroled in the first year of study in basic sciences undergraduate studies in Physics/Chemistry/Mathematics & Biology leading to   B.Sc./ B.S./ B.Stat./ B.Math./ Int. M.Sc./ M.S. during the academic year 2017–18.
  • They must have secured a minimum of 60% in Maths  & Science Subjects in Class 12 board exams (50% for SC/ST/PH)
  • They must secure a minimum of 60% in the 1st year final examination of B.Sc./ B.S./ B.Math./ B.Stat./ Int. M.Sc./ M.S (50% for SC/ST/PH)

 Not Eligible for the KVPY 2017 Fellowship

  • Students with PIO and OCI card are not eligible
  • Students willing to pursue/ pursuing undergraduate course from distance education are not eligible.
  • A student pursuing B.Tech/ MBBS after class 12 are not eligible for the KVPY Fellowship.

KVPY Reward

Monthly Fellowships and Contingency Grant

  • For SA/SX/SB (1st to 3rd years of B.Sc./B.S./B.Stat./B.Math. / Integrated M.Sc. /M.S):
    • Monthly Fellowship: Rs 5000
    • Annual Contingency Grant: Rs 20,000
  • For SA/SX/SB (during M. Sc. / 4th to 5th  years of Integrated M.Sc. /M.S):
    • Monthly Fellowship: Rs 7000
    • Annual Contingency Grant: Rs 28,000

KVPY Summer Program

KVPY 2017 fellows get a chance to participate in the Summer Program for a week at the Indian Institute for Science Education and Research (IISER) - Kolkata, Pune, Mohali, Bhopal, and Trivandrum.

Other Privileges to KVPY Fellows


Access to National Laboratories/ Universities who have agreed to extend special privileges to a library, laboratory facilities, etc. to KVPY 2017 Fellows on the production of the ID card issued to every KVPY 2017 Fellow.

Renewal of the KVPY Fellowship


KVPY 2017 Fellowship are renewed every year subject to the academic performance of the candidates. The candidate should secure minimum 60% in addition to participation and satisfactory performance in the Summer Camp in the first year and summer project every year.

Note: KVPY 2017 fellowship for the students selected under the stream SA/SX/SB will be started after the Class 12 / (10+2) / 1st year UG, ONLY if they pursue an undergraduate course in Basic Sciences.

KVPY Application form and Process

Candidates can get their KVPY 2017 application form online only and there is no offline application for KVPY 2017. Students can fill KVPY 2017 Online Application form before the due date.

In the online procedure, the candidates can download KVPY application form from Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana online website www.kvpy.org.in. The Online application will start in the month of July 2017.

Documents to be Uploaded with KVPY application Form

Candidates have to upload the following documents while making the KVPY Application Form and so the students are advised to keep the document ready before starting with the application form.

  • Scanned Image of Photograph and Signature
  • Copy of Marks Sheet /Certificate of the Qualifying Examination
  • Caste Certificate in prescribed proforma for SC/ST students
  • Medical Certificate from prescribed authority for PwD candidates

Until 2014, the application fee for the General and OBC was Rs. 500 and there was no application fee for the reserved category. 

Payment of KVPY Application Fee


KVPY processing fee can be remitted at any core banking branch of State Bank of India to the credit of Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojana (KVPY) A/c Number 10270577392.

  • If the candidates choose to pay the exam fees through Challan, then they will have to take a printout of Challan and make a payment in any SBI Branch before the due date.

  • After the payment is complete candidates must re-login to upload a scanned copy of the duly filled challan and Bank details. Your application will not be complete without uploading the challan.

KVPY Admit Card 2017


KVPY Online Admit Card: Students who have applied online may download the admit card for the aptitude test from the website from October 2017.

KVPY Selection Process

Shortlisting of the KVPY applications

  • After scrutiny of KVPY application forms and meeting the eligibility criteria for various streams.

KVPY Aptitude Test


KVPY aptitude test is scheduled to be conducted in the month of November 2017. All eligible students will be called for a KVPY aptitude test to be conducted in both Hindi and English Language. This year the KVPY Aptitude exam will be held only in online mode. Until last year the exam was held in both online and offline mode.

KVPY Online Exam will be held in  54 cities and that are Bangalore, Bhopal, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun, Delhi, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Kochi, Kolkata, Lucknow, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Vadodara, Varanasi, Vijayawada, Visakhapatnam, Tripura, Agra, Ahmedabad, Allahabad, Ambala, Aurangabad, Belgaum , Bhopal, Chandigarh, Coimbatore,Durgapur, Faridabad, Ghaziabad, Guwahati, Hubli, Indore,Jalandhar, Jammu, Jodhpur, Kanpur, Kozhikode, Kurnool, Madurai, Mangalore, Mohali, Mysore, Noida, Patna, Raipur, Rajkot, Ranchi, Rourkela, Salem, Siliguri, Thrichur, Trivandrum.

  • The details of the venue of the aptitude test and the seat numbers of eligible students will be available at the website by the first week of October 2017
  • The details of the venue of the aptitude test for the eligible students and their seat number will be published on the KVPY website.
