About CMC Vellore Entrance Exam

Christian Medical College and Hospital, Vellore (CMC Vellore) is an educational and research institute and a hospital located in Vellore, Tamil Nadu, India. It is amongst the top ranked medical colleges in India and used to conduct CMC Vellore entrance exam every year for admission to MBBS. From this year the College will admit students in MBBS course on the basis of NEET as per the orders of Honourable Supreme Court.

  • Christian Medical College is an unaided non-capitation, Christian Minority educational institution admitting students on All India basis and CMC Vellore MBBS fee structure is  Rs.1,45,000 approx. for 4.5 years excluding hostel, mess charges & university exam fees.
  • The college is affiliated to the Tamil Nadu D.r. M.G.R. Medical University.
  • CMC Vellore MBBS 2016 admission will be based on NEET Exam followed by Special Test and interview for 100 MBBS seats in CMC Vellore 2016 out of which approximately 84 seats are sponsored and 16 seats are for open categories.

Latest Update: CMC Vellore Application Form can be filled till August 25, 2016, and the students who have applied earlier for the CMC Vellore MBBS Entrance Exam in February- March need not fill the application form again for admission.

  • There are total 100 seats (84 sponsored and 16 open seats). There is no NRI Quota and there are no management seats.

About the MBBS Course at CMC Vellore

Duration of the course: Four and a half years followed by one year of Compulsory Rotating Residential internship.

The undergraduate course in medicine comprises of three stages.

  • The first stage of 12 months duration consists of the basic sciences- Anatomy, Physiology and Biochemistry.
  • The Second Stage of 18 months duration and comprises clinical and para-clinical subjects - Pharmacology, Pathology, Microbiology and Forensic Medicine.
  • The Final stage is of 24 months duration and covers Ophthalmology, Otorhinolaryngology, Community Medicine, General Medicine, Child Health, Surgery, Orthopaedic Surgery and Obstetrics & Gynaecology.

CMC Vellore Entrance Exam Eligibility criteria

Age: Candidates should have completed the age of 17 years at the time of admission or should complete the said age on or before December 31 of the said year.

Candidate should be born or before December 31, 1999.

Maximum Age Limit

  • AHS Degree Course: 40 years
  • B.Sc Nursing: 30 years (35 years for SC/ST)

Minimum qualification Marks for MBBS

  • Candidates should have passed the qualifying examination equivalent to 10+2 Higher Secondary period of 12 years of study, the last two years of study comprising of Physics, Chemistry and Biology with English.
  • Improvement marks of Class 12 will not be considered.
  • Candidates should have passed in English.

*Calculation of Aggregate Marks

  • Example: If a candidate has 72% in Biology, 66% in Chemistry and 70% in Physics,
    then the aggregate works out to: {72 + (66 +70)/2} or {72 + 68} out of 200, i.e. 140/200 and is eligible.
  • Candidates should have passed in all subjects of the qualifying examination of the Higher Secondary Certificate Examination (Academic) conducted by the Tamil Nadu State Board or any other equivalent examination in one and the same attempt in the subjects.

Eligibility for B.Sc Nursing

  • Only unmarried women candidates are eligible for B.Sc Nursing Course at CMC Vellore.
  • Candidates should have passed Class 12 with 45% aggregate in Physics, Chemistry and Biology (Botany and Zoology). The candidate should have passed in English.

CMC Vellore Entrance Exam Application form and Admit Card

Students have to apply online only for admission to MBBS at CMC Vellore. There is no offline application process. Candidates can either apply in the sponsored category or through the open category. As per the notification of UGC, the NEET scores is mandatory for admission to MBBS/BDS course in any government and private medical colleges in India. 

Therefore, to apply for the admission into CMC Vellore MBBS course, the candidates need to submit their NEET score. If the candidates have not appeared in NEET exam, then he/she can fill the application form to appear in NEET exam.

Candidates who have applied under the sponsorship category and are not eligible for that category will be considered under the Open Category.

NRIs and Foreign Nationals can also appear in the exam, there is no NRI Quota for admission in CMC Vellore. For candidates who have studied abroad, the equivalence of qualification as determined by the Association of Indian Universities

Application Fee Payment

  • Demand Draft- The application fees can be paid via Demand Draft (DD). Demand draft should be made infavor of “C.M.C. Vellore Association a/c” on any Scheduled Bank, payable in Vellore.
    • Demand draft should be kept ready before filling up the CMC application form.
    • Write your name and application number on the back of the demand draft and send the original DD to CMC Vellore office before April 1, 2016.
  • ICICI Bank Challan- The fees can also be paid  through bank challan at no extra cost at any branch of ICICI bank in India.Please mention FC-CMC-V  on the bank challan and the Original Bank Challan has to be sent to CMC Vellore office.
  • Online Payment- Online Payment can be made using Credit/Debit Card. The students should use only his/her or parent/guardian's debit/credit card for making the payment of the application form fees,

CMC Vellore Entrance Exam Result and Counselling

Selection is based on merit and consists of two stages

Stage1 on May 21, 2016: A preliminary written test 

  • Stage 1 will consist of a Computer Based Test- A test consisting of multiple choice questions is conducted in English on an All India basis.(Exam Pattern for the Computer-based test is given below)
  • Candidates who write the All India Entrance Test on May 21, 2016, and are shortlisted for Stage 2 will be intimated by a letter sent by email / Speed Post around the first week of June.

Stage 2: Special Test & Interviews

  • Students who qualify stage 1 of CMC Vellore Admission Test will move to Stage 2 and it will be held in Vellore.
  • In this stage, a special Test for short-listed candidates will be conducted to assess the candidate’s character and aptitude. Interviews will also form part of assessment at this stage.
  • During the process, the aptitude of the candidate for the healing ministry, willingness to serve in remote mission hospitals and a sense of compassion for the suffering will be assessed.
  • At this stage, the students have to produce original certificates for verification.

For Christian students in Stage 2 

  • Christian students under sponsored category who have  qualified stage 1 and moved to stage 2 will have to undergo A written test in Bible Knowledge. It will be a part of the tests at Vellore consisting of 50 Multiple Choice Questions.
  • Admission to the programme for the year is subject to being certified medically fit by the Medical board of Christian Medical College, Vellore.

Total Number of seats: 100 seats per year of which not less than 42 shall be women

The final distribution of seats will be as follows:

  • All India Open - 16 seats
    • Central Pool Scheme: One candidate will be selected by the Government of India (separate requests for obtaining prescribed applications are to be addressed to the authorities.
    • SC/ST Reservation: 20 % (3 seats) of the open seats shall be reserved for candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste / Tribes (SC/ST).
      • The candidates belonging to SC/ST should indicate this on the application form and a photocopy of the certificate of proof issued by the Deputy Tahsildar or the District Magistrate MUST be enclosed. The original of the Certificate is required.
  • Sponsored Candidates - 84 seats

  • The selection committee will shortlist eligible candidates to attend stage 2, which will be conducted only at Vellore.

Stage 1- Computer Based Test

  • It will be a computer-based test and students will be provided sheets for rough work purpose. Sample mock test papers will be available on CMC Vellore website in March 2016
  • While answering the computer based question paper, the student will have the option of Marking the Questions for review later 
  • The entrance test will consist of multiple-choice questions in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and General Ability with emphasis on Speed and Accuracy.
  • A few questions on issues of current topical interest.
  • The test will be conducted in ENGLISH.
  • Each Question will have five options to choose from and correct answers will be given one mark and there will be no negative marking.
  • The unique thing in Marking: The students will be given 1/5th of the marks that is 0.2 marks per question for the questions not attempted by the student.
