About HSEE

HSEE (Humanities and Social Sciences Entrance Examination) is for the admission to the five-year integrated Master of Arts (M.A.) programme at IIT Madras for admission in Integrated MA.The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras is an institute of national importance which offers quality education in Humanities, Sciences, Engineering, Management and Technology at UG/ PG level. HSEE 2018 Exam is likely to be conducted in the month of April 2018 in selected cities throughout India. HSEE Application will start from December 2017 and expected to end on January 3rd week 2018. 

HSEE 2018 is for admission into the two following courses, The first two years of the curriculum are common to all students, after which they branch out into one of the two streams

  • Integrated M.A. in Development Studies
  • Integrated M.A. in English Studies 
  • Total Number of Seats: 46 (23 seats in each stream)

HSEE Eligibility criteria

Age: The candidate must be born on or after 1 October 1993 while the candidates belonging to SC/ ST/ PD category born on or after 1 October 1988 can apply.

Qualifying Examination

Candidates applying for HSEE 2018 should have either completed or should be appearing in 2018 in any one of the following Qualifying Examinations (QE):

  • The final examination of the 10+2 system, conducted by any recognised Central / State Board, such as Central Board of Secondary Education, New Delhi; Council for Indian School Certificate Examination, New Delhi; etc.
  • Intermediate or two-year Pre-University Examination conducted by a recognised Board/ University.
  • Final Examination of the two-year course of the Joint Services Wing of the National
    Defence Academy.
  • General Certificate Education (GCE) Examination (London/ Cambridge/ Sri Lanka) at the Advanced (A) level.
  • High School Certificate Examination of the Cambridge University.
  • Any Public School/ Board / University Examination in India or in any foreign country
    recognised by the Association of Indian Universities as equivalent to 10+2 system.
  • Higher Secondary Course (H.S.C.) Vocational Examination.
  • Senior Secondary School Examination conducted by the National Open School with a minimum of five subjects.

Physical Fitness: Every qualified candidate will have to submit a Physical Fitness certificate from a registered medical practitioner in the prescribed format that will be made available along with the letter of offer of admission

Minimum Qualifying Marks

General & OBC Category Minimum of 60% marks in aggregate in QE
SC, ST & PD Minimum of 55% marks in aggregate in QE

If any Board awards only letter grades without providing an equivalent percentage of marks on the grade sheet, the candidate should obtain a certificate from the Board specifying equivalent marks, and submit it at the time of joining.

The application process for the HSEE is likely to start from the second week of December 2017 for which the applications are expected to be filled until January 3rd week 2018. The application form can only be filled through online mode. The link to fill the online application form is given below.

Steps to Fill the HSEE Application Form

The steps to fill the HSEE Application Form is given below. The candidates are suggested to go through the steps provided below so that the candidates can escape the mistakes while filling the form.

STEP 1: Registration: The candidates first need to register themselves by following the link given above.

STEP 2: Fill the Application Form: The candidates after registering themselves have to fill the HSEE Application Form in which they have to provide their personal details and other relevant details.

STEP 3: Upload Documents: The candidates after Upload scanned Photograph, Signatures and Supporting Documents. The candidates have to mention the following documents for HSEE Application Form.

STEP 4: 
Payment of Fee: The candidates after filling up the application form and the uploading of the documents have to make the payment of the application fees.

Payment of HSEE Application Fees

  • The fees can be paid through the Net Banking/ Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Indian Bank Challan generated online during the application registration process. 
  • Through Indian Bank Challan: Candidate can pay the Application Fee at any branch of the Indian Bank
  • Through Net Banking/ Credit Card/ Debit Card: Candidate has to select the option to pay the application fee. After successful payment, the candidate will be able to print the acknowledgement page.

Documents to be submitted with the HSEE 2018 application form

  • Scanned photograph and signature of the candidate and the Parent/ Guardian.
  • Scanned copy of Class 10 Public Examination certificate for Name and proof of date of birth.
  • Scanned copy of Class 12 mark sheet (if already passed 10+2 examination).
  • Scanned copy of category certificate [SC/ST/OBC (NCL)]. OBC (NCL) certificate
  • Scanned copy of PwD certificate. 

Submission of the Application Form

Candidates have to submit the application form ONLINE only, along with the scanned photograph, signature, copies of relevant certificates and payment details of examination fee either through offline mode or through online modes on or before the due date.

Candidates belonging to OBC (NCL)/ SC/ ST/ PWD are required to submit a hard copy of the self-attested certificate of respective category/ medical certificate as applicable, in the prescribed format so as to reach the address given below:

HSEE Admit Card 2018

HSEE Admit Card will be generated tentatively to download from the second week of March 2018 which may available to download until the second week of April 2018. The admit card will not be sent through the post to any of the candidates. Hence, it can only be downloaded from online. It is a compulsory document to be carried on the day of the exam.

HSEE Application Fees are different as per the categories. Hence, the candidates belonging to the respective categories must pay their application fee accordingly. The fee has to be paid through online mode only that is Credit Card/ Debit Card/ Net Banking.

Additionally, the service charges of the Bank will be Rs.30.The examination fee is non-refundable.

The examination fee can be paid via either of the two following modes:

  • Mode 1: Online: Net Banking/ Credit Card/ Debit Card
  • Mode 2: Offline:  Through the Indian Bank Challan generated during the process of application.

IIT Madras Fee Structure for Integrated MA

Candidates admitted through HSEE 2018 will have to pay the following fees at the time of admission. All fees are subject to vary time to time.

The course fee including the hostel and mess charges for 5 years would be approximately 3 lakh rupees.

HSEE Result and Counselling

  • The ranks/ scores or the HSEE Results of the candidates is expected to be declared in the first week of May 2018.
  • RE-GRADING AND RE-TOTALLINGSince the examination is administered through computers, there is no scope for re-grading and re-totalling.

HSEE Rank List 2018

  • HSEE 2018 Rank list will be prepared based on the aggregate marks obtained in HSEE  2018. A common rank list made up of candidates who score at least 50% in HSEE 2018 will be prepared.
  • Separate rank lists will be prepared corresponding to OBC (NCL), SC, ST and PwD categories.
  • Candidates of OBC (NCL) category must score at least 45% in HSEE 2018 examination to be in the OBC rank list.
  • Candidates of SC and ST categories must score at least 25% in the HSEE 2018, to be in their respective rank lists

Seat Allocation

  • Allocations of seats to individual streams will be made based on the academic performance of students (CGPA) during the first three semesters, students' preferences, and availability of seats under each discipline.

HSEE Exam pattern

  • Duration: Three hours duration
  • The language of Question Paper: English.
  • The HSEE 2018 has two parts.

Part I (Computer Based Test) will involve following.

  • Part I consists of objective type multiple choice questions for 2½ hours duration
    (150 Minutes) administered through computer.

  • Part II involves essay writing for 30 Minutes to be written on answer sheet
    distributed to the candidates at the end of Part I.

HSEE Important details

A candidate has to give 2 choices for exam centre. Request from a candidate for a change of city/town allotted to him/her will NOT be entertained under any circumstances. There are 10 exam centres for HSEE Exam Centres.
