About Code to Learn Contest

Google India Code to Learn Contest 2017 is an initiative by Google India to ignite the curiosity of young minds of schools students toward coding. Google India Code to Learn Contest aims to build a stronger foundation for Computer Science in India.The Contest is open to students of class 5-10 and the submission of the projects need to be done by their Parents or Legal Guardians. The contest will be organised in 3 class groups and 3 winners will be selected from each class group. The winners will be awarded Certificate of Achievement and Nexus Tab or Chromebook Laptop. The last date of Google India Code to Learn Contest 2017 application form submission is 10 September 2017.

Code to Learn Contest Eligibility Criteria

Details
  • Nationality: The competition is open to Indian students only.
  • Academic Status: The contest is open to students from class 5-10 and it will be conducted in 3 class groups:
    • Group 1: Classes 5 & 6
    • Group 2: Classes 7 & 8
    • Group 3: Classes 9 & 10

Not Eligible to Participate

  • Employees, interns, contractors, and official office-holders of Google & its associated organizations along with their immediate family members are not eligible to be a part of the contest.

Code to Learn Contest Reward

The judging panel will select 10 finalists from each class group and out of the shortlisted finalists 9 winners (3 from each group) will be selected. The winners will get the following prizes:

  • Gifts: The 9 winners (3 from each group) selected from each group will get a Nexus Tablet or Chromebook Laptop or an equivalent gift.
  • Certificate: All the 10 finalists will get Certificate of Achievement.

Code to Learn Contest Application form and Process

The Submission for the participants is to be done by their Parents or Legal Guardian. The students can use Scratch and App Inventor for the purpose of coding. Once the coding has been done the project is to be shared using Google Drive. The details of the process are as follow:

  • Coding Platform: The students can use Scratch or App Inventor to create their projects. Both these tools are user-friendly and designed especially for children by MIT.
  • Submission: The projects are to be shared using Google Drive. The following steps can be followed to complete the submission:
    • Create a folder on your Google Drive.
    • Upload or Copy the files related to the project to the new folder.
      • In case of App Inventor, upload only ‘.aia’ files, not ‘.apk’files.
    • After the copy or upload is done, share the folder with code2learn@google.com.
    • Once the folder has been shared, the link of the folder needs to be pasted on the submission page.

Code to Learn Contest Selection Process

The judging panel will shortlist 10 projects and their winners will be selected from the shortlisted projects. The judging will be based on the following criteria:

  • Originality: A unique and novel idea of the project.
  • Application of Computer Science concepts: Use of various concepts and their relevance with the idea of the project.
    • Variables, Looping, Conditional execution, Input, and Output are the Standard Concepts.
  • The complexity of the project: Based on the standard techniques for analysis of algorithms, how complex is the program.
  • Adherence to the Contest Requirements and Rules.
