About Bright Ideas Competition

  • Bright Ideas Competition showcases the ideas and activities of young people from Commonwealth countries who are leading positive change in their community, country or region through their own innovative solutions to challenges large and small.
  • Bright Ideas Competition is meant for those who are passionate about international development and have an idea that could change the world.
  • Candidates have to send a video/audio that deals with Bright Ideas and you might be selected to attend the Commonwealth Youth Forum in Malta.

Commonwealth Youth Forum

  • The Commonwealth Youth Forum is hosted by the Government of Malta and co-organised with the Commonwealth Secretariat and the Commonwealth Youth Council.
  • For the year 2015 it will be conducted in Malta, from November 20 to 25, 2015.
  • The theme for the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Forum is ‘Adding Global Value…#WhatNext?’
  • This Youth Forum will aim to promote and challenge the role of the Commonwealth in adding global value, and, importantly, the role that young people have in achieving this vision

Bright Ideas Competition Eligibility Criteria

Gender Both
Region Commonwealth countries
Class/ Age Aged between 18 and 29 years 
Details
  • Nationality: Candidate should be a citizen of commonwealth country.
  • Candidate must be doing great and innovative work in democracy or development, which has created change for a community or beyond.
  • Candidates must also hold a valid passport and be eligible to obtain a Schengen visa for entry to Malta.

Bright Ideas Competition Reward

Bright Ideas Competition Reward

  • The Commonwealth Secretariat will cover the costs of an economy return airfare from the winner’s country (or current location), plus necessary visas.
  • During the Commonwealth Youth Forum the Government of Malta will cover the cost of the winner’s accommodation and meals.
  • The winner may also have an opportunity to present their work at the Commonwealth Youth Forum.

Candidates have to apply online and they have to submit to Bright Ideas talk in video or audio format to participate in competition

Tips and guidance on hosting a successful Bright Ideas Work

  • Identify your Bright Idea
  • Choose how you would like to showcase your Bright Idea ‘
  • Film your Bright Idea presentation using a video recorder or camera phone, or a microphone
  • Send it to the Commonwealth Secretariat for uploading to the Bright Ideas webpage

Submission

Candidates have to send their Bright Ideas talk in video or audio format via Email to : youth@commonwealth.int by September 30, 2015, 5pm London time (GMT+1).

Along with your submission, please include the following in your email:

  • Name
  • Date of birth
  • Country of origin
  • A short sentence (max 50 words) explaining your Bright Ideas talk.

Bright Ideas Competition Selection Process

Bright Ideas Competition Selection Process

  • Based on the Application s received till September 30, 2015 the most interesting, inspiring and impactful Bright Ideas talk will be selected by the staff of the Youth Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat.
  • Thereafter from the shortlisted list winner will be selected and confirmed by the Deputy Secretary-General, Economic and Social Development.
  • There will be only one winner. 
  • The Commonwealth Secretariat’s decision will be final and abiding.
