Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT) to set up a new campus in Amaravati, the new capital of Andhra Pradesh.The new campus will start the commencement of their first batch in July 2017 for the new academic session. Now there will be two campuses of Vellore Institute of Technology in India, Older one in Tamil Nadu and the younger one in  Andhra Pradesh. VIT will start admission process for B. Tech. program and the application forms from will be available November 9 and the last date of the submission of the application forms is February 28, 2017. The candidates seek admission there will have to appear mandatorily in VIT Engineering Entrance Examination (VITEEE) to secure a seat. The cost of offline application form is Rs 990 and for the computer-based online exam, it is Rs 970. VITEEE will be going to held from April 5 to April 16, 2017, in 120 cities across India and abroad.

VIT in Amaravati will provide a world-class education to students of this State and will help the Government realise its dream to make Amaravati a knowledge capital of India,” G. Viswanathan, the founder and Chancellor of the University told a press conference here on Tuesday.

He said Pointing to the fact VIT ranked as the best private engineering institution in its maiden ranking of higher education institutions, the survey was carried out through the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF). He said 14 B.Tech. programs of the university had received accreditation by ABET, U.S., which rendered them on a par with the best in the world. “VIT also has the highest ‘A’ grade accreditation from NAAC,” he added.

The institution was founded by Dr Viswanathan In 1984, a former Parliamentarian and former Minister of Tamil Nadu, as Vellore Engineering College with 180 students. VIT got the deemed university status in 2001 and Chennai campus was started in 2010.The new university campus in Amaravati will offer various programs in B.Tech including the 5-year Integrated M.Tech in software engineering and PhD. 

There will be the total strength of 32,000 students who are enrolled in 53 undergraduate, graduate and PhD programmes. The students came from all the states and Union Territories of India and also from 56 countries across the worlds. More than 21,000 students live in the on-campus hostels. VIT has signed a MoU with more than 200 universities all over the world for the betterment of the student's education and practical knowledge. This helps the students to get a strong international exposure and prepares them for the world market.
