Selfie: Its Birth & Onset
Selfie has come into existence from the time photography came into being. 19th century saw a number of 'sefie's' being taken, although known by a different name then. However, the concept of selfie became way more popular with the birth of camera phones which made photography all that easier and convenient.
The term 'Selfie' itself became viral globally after The Ellen DeGeneres Show-star Ellen Lee DeGeneres took a group selfie comprising various major Hollywood celebrities at an Oscar function. This groupie started to be famously termed 'Oscar Selfie', given its origin at the Oscars.
Now we know every solo self-photograph to be a Selfie and a 'groupie' (group selfie) as Oscar Selfie.
