IISER will have common counselling with IITs and NITs from the academic year 2017-18. The common counselling has been announced by HRD Ministry. The admission to the seven Indian Institutes of Science Education & Research (IISERs) along with IITs and NITs will be based on a common counselling procedure.
After a day-long meeting conducted by the standing committee of IISER, they said that there were a huge response and support from the students about the common counselling procedure. There are total 1120 seats in the seven IISER. Out of which there are 200 seats in each of the five campuses in Kolkata, Pune, Bhopal and Trivandrum and Mohali and 60 seats each in the newer centres of Tirupati and Behrampur.
Indian students who want to take admission in IISER have to clear any of the three routes that are by clearing JEE, receiving KVPY (Kishor Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna) awards and being among the top 1 percent of each school board including CBSE.
IISER has decided that 15% of the supernumerary seats will be made available to the foreign students like IITs. Although the candidates have to clear the joint entrance test.
- The NRI students taking admission in IISER through any of the three routes will be charged the same fee as taken from the Indian students. Foreign nationals will also be allowed admission for post-doctoral research. They will have to fulfil all the existing criteria.
