Here’s good news for all the University Students!! University Grants Commission has been sanctioned Rs 6.18 crore so as to provide facility of Wi-fi across the campuses. Recently, Human Resource Development Minister Smriti Irani, in a written reply to the Lok Sabha said that till now 85,335 government colleges and government-aided secondary and higher secondary schools have been approved for the wi-fi coverage.
The programme has been named 'Campus Connect' which will enable students to surf educational content available on the website. Students can download the same which will help them in their classes and examinations along with enhancement of knowledge
What about the Schools?
Taken into consideration the schools, there is a component under the Rashtriya Madhyamik Siksha Abhijan (RMSA) which provides financial assistance to the states/UTs for internet connection to government-aided secondary and higher secondary schools among other ICT related interventions.
Gender Equality issue to be implemented
University Grants Commission has also ordered universities and colleges affiliated to it to implement guidelines to promote gender equality on an immediate basis. Earlier implementing a ban on use of chemicals on animal skin, it is enforcing a positive message through education.
Connection with Ph.D Holders
Further down the lane UGC has asked HRD Ministry to provide relation to those Ph.D holders who were registered before 2009. This in turn is a good initiative by the government for the candidates applying for teaching jobs in Universities.
Around 10 lakh teachers have been under constant threat of losing their jobs since the Supreme Court's order that upheld UGC's 2009 regulation on minimum qualifications required for teaching jobs in colleges and universities.
