The aspirants applying for the Central Sector Scholarship provided by the Union Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) seem to have landed themselves in lot of trouble due to Bureaucratic lapses and lack of clarity in selection process.
The parents and students complained that they were not able to complete the application process before the deadline on Friday. Earlier the last date scheduled to complete the application process was September 30, 2015 which was extended for one month, so the second date decided was October 30, 2015. On Friday Directorate of Collegiate Education received official intimation from the Ministry that the last date should be extended to November 30.
A first-year undergraduate student in the city said “she could not complete the online application process despite having the marks prescribed by the MHRD. Repeated efforts to contact the scholarship section at the Directorate of Collegiate Education, responsible for co-ordinating the scholarships to be distributed in Kerala, also failed.”
Students and parents are of the view that lapses on the part of the Higher Secondary Directorate while uploading the roll number of the aspirants on the scholarship website had led to the present turmoil. The officials of the Directorate of Collegiate Education Department admitted their flaw and are of the view that a mix-up had occurred while giving the roll numbers. An official said, “It was not complete initially. But the mistake was rectified the other day and details of all eligible students have been uploaded now.”
Under the central sector scholarship total of 82000 fresh scholarships will be granted out of which 41000 is for girls and 41000 for boys.
