The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has declared that the fifth edition of its Student Global Aptitude Index (SGAI) will be held online. SGAI will be held from December 8-December 20, 2014 and the schedule has been forwarded to the requisite board offices. The last date of registration was November 30, 2014.

The assessment test is available for only Class 10 students. SGAI 5th edition will be an online aptitude test but it can also be taken offline in those areas where internet connection is not stable. Even in the offline mode the students will have to take the SGAI aptitude exam on a computer through a software provided by CBSE.

SGAI is an assessment test conducted by CBSE to help the students in their subject choices for class 11 through a scientific and self exploratory manner. This will help them decide on the future course of action after class 10. SGAI will help students choose a suitable academic career on the basis of their abilities. Though SGAI is an optional program yet a lot of students have keenly registered for the aptitude exam.

SGAI- Student Global Aptitude Index has been duly tested and re-tested by trial runs in order to ensure the accuracy of the index.

Some Salient Features about SGAI

  • The test will be conducted within the school premises according to the schedule provided by CBSE. There is a registration fee of Rs. 100 per student to take the test.
  • The duration of the test is 2 hours and there will be questions based on general information about the background, aptitudes, interests, motivation, personality and hobbies of the students.
  • There is no negative marking
  • There is no syllabus for the Exams
  • SGAI Score Card/ Result : Soon after the completion of the assessment, the students will be able to access their SGAI reports using their unique individual accounts.

How is SGAI Aptitude Assessment Test Conducted?

  • One representative from each school is appointed to act as coordinator for the students. The schools which are registered for the test can visit www.cbse.nic.in to get additional information.
  • The SGAI coordinator is appointed to act as a mediator between the Board and students.
  • Coordinator User Account: The coordinator’s account is automatically created using the principal id/school id registered with CBSE.
  • Student User Accounts: The names and CBSE registration numbers of the students participating in SGAI is submitted with CBSE and individual students accounts are then created for them.
    • The details required as part of the students registration process:
    • The marks of the students in the format specified by CBSE- 
      •  A minimum of 2 term marks in Science, Maths, English, Language and
        Social Sciences 
    • Student’s individual e-mail id in which he/she will receive important information
    • Mobile number of the students’ parents/guardians.
    • The student has to be careful while typing his/her registration number and password and type the same correctly.
  • Student Helpline: In order to make sure that the student’s doubts are duly and timely clarified, the school coordinators are provided with an online chat facility: help.sgai@gmail.com and ‘doubt clarification’ facility via telephone for the students.

Minimum Requirements from the School:

  • Since the test will have to be taken on the computer either online or offline, for a two-hour duration, the school has to be equipped the requisite number of computer systems
  • System Integration: The system will have to be updated with the following features:
    •  A CPU of 1 gigahertz (GHz) or more.
    • A minimum of 1GB RAM
    • Screen resolution of minimum 1024x768
  • High Speed Internet: The systems should have stable internet connection 2Mbps 3G/broadband speed.
  • The systems should be equipped with Google Chrome (latest version), Firefox 3.0 and above, Internet Explorer 8.0 and above.
  • The system must be Java enabled.

The SGAI aptitude test has been taken by 6 lakh students till date with about 1.8 lakh students appearing for the test in 2013. There has been a noted 10% rise in number of participants for 2014 as compared to the numbers in 2013.

The aptitude assessment test was initiated for the first time by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) in 2011. Four editions of SGAI have been completed till now. The motive behind this assessment test is to enlighten the students on their strengths which in turn will help them choose a career best suitable to them.
