JEE Advanced 2018 Analysis by Allen Kota – Sectional Analysis

The JEE Advanced 2018 contains three types of questions, which are - single correct answer, multiple correct answers and single digit (Numerical). Also, for every section, the marking scheme will vary. Last year, the questions from the Chemistry section were conceptual and consumed most of the test taker’s time.

JEE Advanced Paper 1

  • Chemistry – In Paper 1, this section was moderate and candidates did not waste much time solving the questions. Most questions were based on the syllabus of Class 11 and Class 12.
  • Physics – Here, most of the questions required a clear concept and calculation. Most test takers agreed that this was the toughest section and it consumed more time.
  • Mathematics – In this section, difficulty level ranged from moderate to difficult. However, the overall analysis of this section was moderate. The questions were based on Class 11 and 12 syllabi.

JEE Advanced Paper 2

  • Chemistry – Just like paper 1, the difficulty level of this section was moderate. There few conceptual questions, however, they didn't consume much time of candidates.
  • Physics – Between moderate to difficulty, the difficulty level of this section ranged. Most of the questions were from the syllabus of Class 11 and 12. Test takers with a better understanding of the concepts were able to answer them swiftly.
  • Mathematics – This section gave a hard time to most of the candidates. Although the questions were from Class 11 and 12 syllabus, they needed long calculations.

JEE Advanced Cutoff 2018

The cutoff marks are the minimum marks that candidates must obtain to get shortlisted for the admission rounds. JEE Advanced Cutoff 2018 score will vary with the category of the candidates. Also, test takers must note that obtaining the JEE Advanced Cutoff scores does not guarantee admission to the IITs. JEE Advanced cut-off will depend on the following factors -

  • Exam’s difficulty level
  • Number of seats available in the IITs
  • Number of students appeared for the test
