About Swami Vivekananda Scholarship

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship 2016 is offered to pursue secondary, diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate level studies. The purpose of this scholarship program is to provide financial assistance to the poor and meritorious students of West Bengal pursuing higher studies.

Swami Vivekananda scholarship is provided to the meritorious students who lack the financial assistance for good education. To facilitate smooth applications for students, applications will be accepted online as well as offline.To complete the application process, students from different courses are supposed to deposit their applications to different authorities, details available below.

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

Gender Any
Region West Bengal 
Class/ Age Higher secondary, diploma, undergraduate or postgraduate level.

Domiciled and studying in West Bengal

The students of Post-Madhyamik levels in regular courses who are domiciled in West Bengal and studying in one of the educational institutions of this state after passing out from the State Board / Council of Secondary / Higher Secondary Education and Madrasah Siksha Parishad or a University of West Bengal set up by State Act can apply for Swami Vivekananda Scholarship 2016.

Eligibility conditions

For Scholarships at Higher Secondary level:

  • At least 75% in aggregate in Madhyamik Pariksha (Class 10) or its equivalent excluding optional elective subjects.
  • Students who are enrolled in Class 11 on passing Madhyamik Pariksha or its equivalent examination in 2016 will be eligible to apply for Swami Vivekananda Scholarship 2016.

For the Under Graduate

  • Students who are enrolled in the first year of Under Graduate Course after passing the H.S. Examination or its equivalent examination in 2016 will be eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must obtain at least 75% marks, consisting of two language subjects and three best elective subjects.

For scholarships at Diploma (Polytechnic)

  • Students who are enrolled after passing-out in Secondary (M.P.) Examination or its equivalent as stated above in 2016 for first year Diploma (Polytechnic) course
  • H.S. Examination or its equivalent for Diploma in Pharmacy or Modern office practice & Management  of 2 year duration and after passing-out in ‘West Bengal State Council of Vocational Education & Training courses which is equivalent to H.S. Examination for 2nd year Diploma (Polytechnic) courses on lateral entry basis will be eligible to apply.
  • Candidates must obtain at least 75% marks in aggregate

For the Post Graduate level scholarships

  • At least 55% marks in Honours subjects at the Graduation level.
  • Students who are enrolled in the first year class of Post Graduate Course in general education after passing the Graduation with Honours in 2013 will be eligible to apply.

Income Criteria

Candidates whose annual family income is Rs. 2,50,000 or less are eligible to apply.

Adhaar Card recommendation

Applicants have to enter their adhaar card details in the relevant columns. Note: Lack of Aadhar Card shall not debar /disqualify a candidate from applying for the Scholarship in 2016

Under Graduate level scholarships Rs. 1000 to  Rs.5000 per month
Scholarships at Diploma (Polytechnic) level Rs. 1500 per month
For the Post Graduate level scholarships Rs.2000 to Rs. 5000 per month


The recipients of Swami Vivekananda Scholarship 2016 will not be allowed to opt any other scholarship/stipend from State/Central Government for the same course/stage of the study.

Vivekananda Scholarship Renewal

To renew the scholarship, candidates have to fill a  "continuity Certificate" from the head of the educational institution and deposit it with the requisite scholarship sanctioning authority within one month from the date of admission to the next higher class after passing in the first attempt.The application and the continuity certificate should be submitted within one month of the admission in the next class.

The Renewal of the scholarship is possible only if the candidate scores the following minimum %

  • Higher Secondary level: 60%
  • Graduation: 60%
  • Post Graduation: 60%

Renewal of Swami Vivekananda Scholarship 

Payment of Scholarship: The Payment of scholarship will only be done through ECS, so candidates should provide the A/c no., Bank Name, IFSC Code, MICR number of the nationalised bank in which the students has an account.

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Application form and Process

Applicants have to register to the portal online by following the common registration link given below. After successful registration, applicants can apply individually for the scholarships as per their eligibility by filling up the online form and submitting it offline  to the addresses given below. 

  • Applicants have to register to the eFormApplication portal after which they can apply individually for the desired scholarship.
  • Students are required to register before November 30, 2016.

Submission of Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Application form

After filling the online Application Form, the students have to affix/paste the recently signed passport size photo on the application form.

Documents to be sent with the application form

  • Income Certificate or the affidavit stating the income in a given format.
  • Declaration of Income Format
  • Proforma for Income Certificate- Affidavit

For submitting the scholarship application form, the student should clearly write on the envelope "Application for Swami Vivekananda Merit-cum-Means Scholarship Scheme pursuing ________________ Course of Studies”

  • Paste the Bar Code: Both the online and offline applicants should paste the bar code on the envelope which is printed on the downloaded application form.

The application has to be sent to the following office for the given following categories

  • The 1st year students of UG and PG Courses in general education: Directorate of Public Instruction, West Bengal, Scholarship & Stipend Section, Bikash Bhavan, 9th
    floor, North Wing, Salt Lake, Kolkata – 700091
  • The 1st year UG and PG courses (Engineering & Technology) and other professional Engineering courses -Directorate of Technical Education, West Bengal, Bikash Bhavan, 10th floor, East Wing (South), Salt Lake, Kolkata – 700091.
  • The 1st year UG (Medical) courses like MBBS, BDS, BHMS, BAMS and UG
    Nursing – Directorate of Medical Education, West Bengal, ‘Swasthya Bhavan’, GN Block, Sector – V, Salt Lake, Kolkata – 700091.
  •  Pursuing Polytechnic Diploma course -Directorate of Technical Education & Training, West Bengal, Vocational Training Institute, Plot B/7, Action Area 3, New town, Kolkata – 700156
  • Required documents for submitting the application form

The Hard copy of the application, along with requisite enclosures and a recent passport-size and signed photograph, properly affixed on the application form must reach/be submitted to the offices mentioned above by November 3, 2016.

Swami Vivekananda Scholarship Selection Process

It may be noted here that duly filled in and completed applications will only be considered for awarding Scholarships.

Level-wise number of awardees will be selected considering both merit and means of the applicants from the valid applications received within the last date of receiving applications.
