About Sanskrit Scholarship

Central Sanskrit Scholarship 2020-21: Candidates can apply for Central Sanskrit Scholarship 2020-21 through this page. The registration has started online. The students pursuing higher studies in Sanskrit from a recognised educational institution, at the levels of Shastri, Graduation, Acharya, Post Graduation, Vidyavaridhi, PhD are eligible. The Central Sanskrit  Scholarship 2019-20 up to Post-Graduate and equivalent courses will be tenable for one Academic year and for PhD it will be for two years. Central Sanskrit Sansthan is a deemed university set up by the Government of India propagates and promotes the Sanskrit language. Central Sanskrit Sansthan (Deemed University), New Delhi was set-up in 1970 by the Government of India for propagation, promotion and learning & research in Sanskrit languages in India.

Central Sanskrit Scholarship Notification

Central Sanskrit Scholarship Notification has been released for the 2019-20 session. A screenshot of the notification has been provided below. The Institutions/Schools/College/University who have already Registered during the academic session  2017-2018/2018-2019/2019-2020 there is no requirement for Registration during the current year(2020-2021

Central Sanskrit Scholarship Amount

Candidates can check scholarship amount which is provided under the Central Sanskrit Scholarship below:

Scholarship Amount

  • Class 9 & 10: Rs. 5,000 (Rs. 500 p.m. for 10 Months)
  • Class 11&12: Rs. 6,000 (Rs. 600 p.m. for 10 Months)
  • B.A./Shastri: Rs.8,000 (Rs. 800 p.m. for 10 Months)
  • M.A./Acharya: Rs.10,000 (Rs. 1000 p.m. for 10 Months)
  • Ph.D./Vidyavaridhi: Rs. 30,000 (Rs. 2500 p.m. for 12 months) + Rs. 5,000 as the contingency for 2 years 

Scholarship Period

  • The scholarship will be applicable for 1 year (10 months) starting from July 1 and will end on April 30.
  • Scholarship for PhD will be applicable for 2 years ( 24 months) 

Payment of Scholarship

The scholarship amount will be transferred directly into the accounts of students through e- transfer and an intimation letter will be issued to the institution. It is important to note that the bank account has to be linked with Aadhar number.

Sanskrit Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

Gender Both
Region India
Class/ Age Sanskrit including Pali/Prakrit Students (Class 9-12), Graduation & Post Graduation

The applicants will be considered for a scholarship if they have undergone a course of not less than one year or two semesters in Sanskrit.

The students of faculties of Arts or Humanities having Sanskrit as Major/ Minor subjects will be eligible for the scholarship in case of Graduation and Post Graduation only.

  • Students of Class 9 & 10 or equivalent studying  Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a paper of at least 100 marks.
    • To be eligible, the student should have secured minimum 60% marks in the previous class examination and must have secured 60% in the concerned subject.
  • Students of Class 11 & 12 or equivalent studying  Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a paper of at least 100 marks.
    • To be eligible, the student should have secured minimum 60% marks in the previous class examination and must have secured 60% in the concerned subject.
  • Shastri/Graduation/B.A./B.A.(Hons.) course of 3 years with Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit as a subject of at least 100 marks.
    • To be eligible, the students should have secured minimum 
      60% marks or equivalent in the aggregate and also in 
      Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit in Class 12
  • Acharya/M.A. Degree-Pursuing post-graduation degree in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit.
    • To be eligible, the students should have secured minimum 60% in aggregate in graduation in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit.
  • Vidyavaridhi/Ph.D - Pursuing a PhD in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit.
    • To be eligible, the students should have secured minimum 60% in aggregate in M.A./ Acharya in Sanskrit/Pali/Prakrit.

Minimum Percentage of marks for the following category:

  1. General - 60%
  2. SC / ST - 50%
  3. OBC - 55%
  4. Physically Handicapped - 50%

The students who have joined MA after B.Ed / M.Ed / M.Phil for them the last qualifying exam will be BA provided there is no gap in the study.

Not eligible for Sanskrit scholarship

  • The student availing scholarship from some other source will not be eligible for the Rashtriya Sanskrit Scholarship.
  • The person applying for the scholarship should not be employed anywhere else.

Documents to be uploaded while filling the application form

  • Attested Mark sheet of the latest qualifying examination.
  • Caste certificate in case of SC/ST/OBC/Physically Handicapped issued by the competent authority. It should be in the name of student and certificate in the name of parents will not be accepted.
  • For Class 9-10 students, they must submit the hard copy of the scholarship application form duly countersigned by concerned District Education Officer.
  • Scanned image of the first page of passbook with all details visible.
  • Scanned image of Aadhar Card

Signing the Application Form

Application form along with all the supporting documents should be attested by signed by the Headmaster / Principal/ Vice-Principal/ Registrar /Head of Concerned Department with seal/ rubber stamp failing which the application form would be rejected.

Note: The applicants are required to mention their account number along with the IFSC Code in the online application form. The photocopy of the passbook of bank account should also be attached with the application form.

Sanskrit Scholarship Selection Process

  • Incomplete applications and applications received after the due date will not be considered.
  • The Scholarship will be granted based on the percentage of marks obtained in Sanskrit / Pali / Prakrit and also on the aggregate marks secured in the previous class.
  • The merit would be prepared by taking into account the overall grade/ percentage plus grade/percentage obtained in Sanskrit. However, for Sanskrit (Hons) Students the grade percentage obtained in Sanskrit only will be taken.
  • The applicant must have secured the said marks and rounding off marks will not be allowed.
