About RMO Odisha

Regional Mathematical Olympiad is a stepping stone towards the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad, a qualifying stage of International Mathematical Olympiad

The RMO across the country is held in 25 regions and CBSE, KVS, and JNV.

Odisha will conduct RMO, JMO and SMO 2016.

The 58th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from July 12 to July 24, 2017.

  • Each region has its own Regional Coordinator, who is responsible for conducting RMO in his/her region. Odisha is one of the region for conducting RMO.

RMO 2016 Odisha Region

  • These 30 selected students who clears RMO, SMO, and JMOwill be trained for their participation in Indian National Mathematical Olympiad to be conducted on January 15, 2017
  • For smooth conduct of RMO, JMO and SMO Odisha state has been dividedin to 6 zones:
    • Utkal University Zone-I and Zone-II
    • Berhampur Zone-I and Zone-II
    • Sambalpur Zone-I and Zone-II
  • Each zone is headed by a Zonal Co-ordinator appointed by the Regional Co-ordinator, in consultation with the President of OMS.

Details

RMO- The students of class 9, 10 and 11 and 1st year studennt of class 12 who are born on or after August 1, 1997 are appear to appear for RMO. 

Extraordinary brilliant and highly motivated student of class 8 may also appear in RMO Test at the discretion of the Regional Co-ordinator

JMO- Students of class 6, 7 and 8 may appear at JMO Test.

SMO- Students of 2nd and 3rd year of the following can appear in SMO Test:

  • B.A/B.Sc with pass or honours in Mathematics
  • B.Sc or NISER with Mathematics as a core subject
  • B.Tech of IIT, NIT and other Engieering Colleges/Technical Universities of the State of Odisha.

RMO Odisha Reward

  • Candidates on qualifying RMO will be eligible to take INMO.
  • Training for INMO 2017: A short term training program for the students selected for INMO test will be organized by Institute of Mathematics and Applications.
  • INMO will be held at the Office of the Regional Co-coordinator, PG Department of Mathematics, Utkal University, Vanivihar, and Bhubaneswar-751004 on January 15, 2016. between 12:00 Noon to 4 pm.  

Other benefits and awards:

  • Students who qualify RMO: Candidates who secure the top two positions in RMO 2016 Odisha will receive Gold and Silver Medals respectively.
    • Two silver medals will be offered to class 9 students.
      • 1 would be for student who secures highest mark in RMO 2016.
      • 1 for the girl student of Odia medium school securing the highest mark in RMO 2016.
  • Students who qualify INMO: All students qualifying INMO 2017 will be given Silver Medals.
  • Merit Certificates will be offered to all the candidates who come up to the level expected by the evaluation board.

RMO Odisha Application form and Process

Candidates to appear in the RMO shall contact to their Headmaster/Headmistress / Principal / Head of the Department of his / her institution.

  • Examination Fees for RMO 2016: Students have to deposit Rs. 50 with the concerned person and then, their respective school/institution.
  • The school will then send a consolidated list of candidates in the prescribed proforma along with the fees collected to the Zonal Co-Coordinator, INMO of the Zone in which the applicant institution falls.
  • Note: A school/college with a minimum of 100 candidates participating in the RMO 2016 can become an examination center.

RMO Odisha Selection Process

RMO Selection Procedure

  • The answer scripts of the Regional Mathematical Olympiad examination will be evaluated at different zonal centers in Odisha according to the scheme of valuation.
  • First 100 papers chosen on the basis of marks shall be rechecked by the experts to select the 30 candidates to appear at the INMO test. 

Question Pattern of RMO

  • Questions asked in the RMO (Odisha) Region 2016 would be of objective type.
  • Total 40 questions will be asked, each carrying 2.5 marks.
  • There will be 4 sets of questions papers.
  • The students have to only the answers in the space provided, not the solution procedure.
  • The test questions would be of a nature requiring insight, critical approach, logical thinking, the power of application of knowledge in solving problems and the difficulty level increases from RMO to INMO to IMO

Examination Syllabus for RMO, SMO and JMO

JMO – Sound knowledge of mathematics in middle schools. The areas covered are Arithmetic, Geometry, Algebra, Number Theory.

RMO – The syllabus for Mathematical Olympiad (Regional, National and International) is pre degree college mathematics. The areas covered are Arithmetic of integers, Geometry, Quadratic Equations and Expressions, Trigonometry, Co-ordinate Geometry, System of Linear Equations, Permutations and combinations, Factorization of Polynomials, Inequalities, Elementary Combinatorics, Probability Theory and Number Theory, Finite Series and Complex Number and Elementary Graph Theory. The syllabus does not include calculus and statistics. The major areas from which problems are given are Number Theory, Geometry, Algebra and Combinatorics. The syllabus is in a sense spread over from Class X to XII level. The questions will not be of routine type. The test questions would be of a nature requiring insight, critical approach, logical thinking, the power of application of knowledge in solving problems. The difficulty level increases from RMO to INMO to IMO. In RMO students have to answer six questions.

SMO – Thought Provoking Problems from Analysis (Real and Complex), Advanced Calculus, Algebra (Abstract and linear), Probability Theory, Differential Equations, Number Theory, Geometry of Three Dimensions, Mechanics, and Numerical Analysis.
