About NSEP

National Standard Examination in Physics (NSEP), conducted by Indian Association of Physics Teachers (IAPT) is the first step for the worldwide Olympiad in Physics. On qualifying NSEP 2017, eligible students will be able to participate in the Indian National Physics Olympiad (A qualifying stage of International Physics Olympiad). This examination is conducted every year since 1987 and today, more than 40,000 students at over 1200 centres across the nation appear in NSEP every year. NSEP is carried out in English, Hindi and a few other Indian Languages.

NSEP Eligibility Criteria

Gender  Any
Region  All India
Class/ Age  up to class 12
Details
  • Age: Applicants of NSEP 2017-18 should be born on or after 1 July 1997
  • Applicants should be in class 12 or lower as of 30 November 2017
Not Eligible to participate in NSEP 2017
  • Students those who have passed class 12 are not eligible for NSEP 2017

NSEP Reward

  • Applicants on qualifying NSEP 2017-18 will be able to participate in the Indian National Olympiad in Physics (A qualifying exam for participation in the International Olympiad in Physics)

Other Awards & certificates:

  • Certificates will be given to top 10% students of each centre (List of centres is available in the ‘Application Mode & Process Section’)
  • Merit certificates will be given to top 1% student in each subject
  • Special Merit Certificate and a book to National top 1% students
  • Top 35 students will receive Gold Medals

Note: Gold medalists in NSEP, after completing their education, may join DAE
(Department of Atomic Energy) directly through an interview without appearing in their entrance test.

NSEP Application form and Process

Candidates have to register through their schools or registered centres. The registration form of the National Standard Examination in Physics can only be filled by the Institutions. The steps of filling the form are given below:

  • STEP 1: The schools have to follow the link given below in order to apply for the NSEP Olympiad.
  • STEP 2: The schools have to fill the KV code to further fill the application form.
  • STEP 3: After that, the schools have to fill all the required details such as Principal’s Name, Principal’s Email Id, No of candidates for the test etc.
  • STEP 4: After filling all the details, it is the sole responsibility of the schools to check all the details filled by them are correct in all aspect. They should click on "Apply" button after inspecting the details.
  • STEP 5: An OTP will be sent to the Principal’s Mobile Number which should be filled in the “Registration Confirmation/ Activation Form which will confirm the registration.

Submission of the Application Form

The candidates who have filled the application form should submit the same to complete the application process. Before the final submission of the application form, the candidates should make sure that they have filled the correct details on the form.

NSEP Admit Card is now available to download for the candidates to appear in the examination scheduled to be conducted on 26 November 2017. The candidates can download the admit card from 13 November 2017 onwards.

The admit card is an important document to be carried at the examination centre. The link to download the admit card is given below. The candidates have to enter their username and password to download the admit card.

NSEP Selection Process

Candidates are selected based on marks obtained in the NSEP Examination by the candidate. More the marks obtained by the candidates more will be their probability of being selected. The NSEP result will be declared in the first week of January 2018 for the exam scheduled to be conducted on 26 November 2017.

NSEP 2017-18 Syllabus & Pattern

Syllabus for NSEP is broadly equivalent to the CBSE Physics of the senior secondary level i.e. class 11 and 12.

  •  Part A1: 60 Questions with only one correct alternative for 3 marks. There is a negative marking of 1 mark for each incorrect answer.
  • Part A2: 10 questions each for 6 marks with multiple correct alternatives. No negative marking would be done
