Smart India Hackathon 2019 is the most significant Digital Movement of India under the digital India initiative to solve numerous problems of various Ministries and Departments in Govt. of India. As we know, the Government of India has a separate department for each sector such as the Department of Atomic Energy, Department of Biotechnology, Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, etc. Every department has its problems which have to be solved. Smart India Hackathon 2019 is a ‘one of its kind’ initiative, where 29 Union Ministries/ Departments have joined as its partners and will post several problem statements.   • Smart India Hackathon 2019 is a joint venture by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE), Persistent Systems and i4c which was launched at College of Engineering, Pune on 16 October 2017
  • There are lots of intelligent brains across the nation who can solve citizen problems, and the platform for the same has been created as "World's Biggest Hackathon". Smart India Hackathon 2019 is organised for these kinds of people who can provide appropriate solutions to the problems.
  • In 2018, Hardware section was also introduced in Smart India Hackathon. Thus, the candidates can submit the hardware as well as the software solution.

Smart India Hackathon 2019 Organizing Partner

All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) is the statutory body and a national-level council for technical education, under the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resource Development. They are organisers of SIH 2019 (Smart India Hackathon) and have identified multiple problem statements for this initiative. There will be massive participation from the students of registered technical institutions. Participants interested in the event can submit their entries before the last date. The applicants will have a chance to win prizes worth 50 lacs.

Smart India Hackathon 2019 Eligibility to Participate

Participant must be a registered student from a recognised Technology Institution of India. Institutions interested in becoming Nodal Centers for Smart India Hackathon 2019, must apply on the official website

  • Maximum three teams per college/ institute can participate in this competition.
  • The team members have to be from the same college; members from different college are not allowed. However, members of the same college but different branches can form a team.
  • The number of members of a team is 6 with at least one female member. The team with all female members is allowed to participate.
  • Each member of the team must be well versed in programming skills.
  • Colleges must issue a letter on their letterhead stating the names of the team and team members.
  • The name of the team leader and mobile numbers of all team members should be specified in the letter.
  • The letter should bear the seal of the college/ institute along with the signature of the principal.
  • A scanned copy of this letter in PDF form is to be mandatorily submitted during the online application process
  • After teams are shortlisted, each team will be assigned two mentors from the industry to guide them during the hackathon; they will augment the team.
  • Preferences will be given to entries from North East India while selecting between two similar ideas.

Smart India Hackathon 2019 Team Size

In Smart India Hackathon 2019, 50 teams will be selected for the final Hackathon. These 50 teams will compete with each other, and the best among them will win prizes. The team size is mentioned below:

As per the Smart India Hackathon 2019 Prize Distribution criteria, the top three teams will be given prizes. The prize will be a cash prize for each rank which has been given in the table below

Smart India Hackathon 2019 Registration

Candidates can fill the Application Form of Smart India Hackathon 2019 through online mode. Interested applicants can visit the official website of Smart India Hackathon by following the link. The students by following the link have to go to the "SPoC Registration" section to apply individually. In the Application Form, candidates have to fill the following

  • AICTE Registration number
  • Institute Name and address
  • State
  • College
  • SPOC's Name
  • Principal/ Dean's Name etc.

Smart India Hackathon 2019 - Selection Process & Criteria 

The students who have registered for the Smart India Hackathon have to answer the problem statements by various ministries, and the would be evaluated on that. Evaluation criteria will include the novelty of the idea, complexity, clarity and details in the prescribed format, feasibility, practicability, sustainability, the scale of impact, user experience and potential for future work progression. Preferences will be given to entries from Northeast while selecting between two similar ideas.

  • Hands-on techie with knowledge of a wide array of technologies
  • Self-motivated and passionate about technology challenges
  • Ability to design, write and test code
  • Good Communication & presentation skills
  • Minimum 7+ years of hands-on software development work
  • Ability to lead & motivate a team of 6 college students
  • Positive ‘Can do’ attitude is a MUST
  • Passionate about helping and working with students
  • Prior participation in Hackathons would be an added benefit

Grand Finale of Smart India Hackathon 2019 - 36 hours non-stop digital competition

If a team is selected for the finale of Smart India Hackathon, members will need to travel to the assigned centre which can be anywhere in India. Selected teams will be allowed to have two seniors as mentors. Mentors can be professors/teachers/ experienced professionals from the industry. On selection, total team size will be (6+2) excluding the one who promotes your team on the social media. Each college/institute will be responsible for the travel and accommodation of their teams for the finale. Each college/institute will issue a stamped photo ID to each member of the teams selected, and it is a compulsory document for participating in the finale.

Smart India Hackathon 2019 result will release in March 2019 for the hardware edition and in February 2019 for the Software Edition. The Smart India Hackathon 2019 result will be available on this page once it is released.
