About JEE Advanced

JEE Advanced 2018 is an IIT JEE exam that is a joint entrance exam for admission into IITs. Candidates who want to appear for JEE Advanced 2018 can apply online from April 2018. JEE Advanced 2018 will be conducted by IIT Kanpur under the directives of the Joint Admission Board (JAB) for admission to Bachelor's, Integrated Master's and Dual Degree programs in 18 IITs and ISM Dhanbad. Candidates who have qualified JEE Main 2018 are only eligible for JEE Advanced 2018.  JEE Advanced 2018 is the second stage of Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) and only the top 2,24,000 candidates (including all categories) based on their scores in Paper 1 of JEE Main 2018 will be eligible to appear in JEE Advanced 2018

JEE Advanced Eligibility criteria

Only JEE Mains (Paper 1) qualified candidates will be eligible to appear in the JEE Advanced Exam 2018 if they have secured a rank lower than 2,24,000 in all categories. Listed below are the 5 eligibility criterions namely A, B, C, D and E which are to be satisfied by the candidate after which they can successfully register for the JEE Advance Exam to be conducted on 20 2018.

A. JEE Mains 2018 Rank - Top 2,24,000

Applicants must be in the top 2,24,000 students which include the students from all categories and must have scored positive marks in JEE Mains 2018. The category-wise distribution of the top 2,24,000 students with their reservation allowance is defined in the table given below. 3% reservation is given directly to the PwD candidates from each of the categories horizontally.

The total number of candidates can be slightly greater than 2,24,000 in the presence of “tied” ranks/ scores in any category.


B. Academic Qualifications

  • Candidate must have passed class 12 or equivalent in 2017 for the first time or he/she is going to appear in class 12 or equivalent examination 2018 for the first time is eligible to apply.
  • However, if the examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declares the results for the academic year  2015-16 after June  2016, then the candidates of that board who appeared for their class XII exam in 2016 are also eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2018, provided they meet the other eligibility criteria.
  • In case, the Examination Board of Class XII (or equivalent) declared the results for the academic year 2015-16 before June 2016 but the result of a particular candidate was withheld, then the candidate will not be eligible to appear in JEE (Advanced) 2018.

C. Age Limit

  • Date of birth as recorded in the Secondary Education Board/University certificate will only be considered. All the applicants appearing in the exam must be born on or after the dates specified in the table below, only SC/ST and PwD candidates are given relaxation of 5 years.

D. Number of Attempts

  •  A candidate can attempt JEE Advanced 2018 a maximum of two times and that too, in consecutive years. Applicants who have taken JEE (Advanced) in 2017 can also attempt 2018 exam.

E. Earlier Admission at IITs and ISM

  • The candidate should NOT have been admitted OR even accepted the seat by paying seat acceptance fee at any of the IITs or ISM in the past.
  • The candidates whose admission at IITs or ISM was cancelled are also NOT eligible.
  • However, candidates who have been admitted to a preparatory course in any of the IITs in 2017 can appear in JEE Advanced 2018.

Steps to Fill the JEE Advanced 2018 Registration Form


STEP 1:
Candidate has to Log-in, provide basic information including the choice of language in Question paper (English/Hindi)  and choice of the city for the JEE Advanced Exam.

STEP 2: Upload the Scanned copy of all the required documents.

STEP 3: Pay the Registration Fee. 

Eligible candidates who did not opt for appearing in JEE Advanced 2015 while applying for JEE Main 2018, can also register for JEE Advanced 2018.

Important- While registering for JEE Advanced 2018, the candidate need to provide the following information (as applicable) and also upload soft (scanned) copies of the relevant certificates:

  • Year of First Attempt in JEE (Advanced).
  • Choice of Examination City / Town (refer information bulletin).
  • Choice of Language: Question Paper.
  • Entitlement of DS Category.
  • The requirement of Scribe (refer information bulletin).

Documents to be Uploaded with JEE Advanced 2018 Registration

  • Colour Photograph: Original passport size photograph in JPEG format (preferably from the digital camera).
  • Signature: Legible scanned signature as a JPEG file.
  • Certificates: Soft copies of Date of Birth, Class 10, Class 12 and Category and Sub-Category (PWD) certificate.

The registration procedure in details will be available on the JEE Advanced 2018 online registration portal. If the candidates have pass certificate and mark statement of class 12 as a separate document then he/she has to upload the class 12 marks statement while filling the JEE advanced application form.

Candidates are required to take a printout of the computer generated acknowledgement slip after successful submission of data and payment of fees and keep the same in the safe custody for any future reference.

Payment of the JEE Advanced Application 2018 Fee

The candidates can make the payment of the JEE (Advanced) by any of the two methods of payment given below.

  • Online payment: The first mode of paying the JEE (Advanced) application fee is the online mode in which the candidates can pay the fee using Debit Card/Net Banking. The candidates do not have any option to make the payment through credit card.
  • Offline Payment: The second mode of paying the JEE (Advanced) application fee is the offline mode in which the candidates need to pay the application fee through SBI Challan. 

Seven Steps to apply Online for JEE Advanced 2018

JEE Advanced 2018 Admit Card


Candidate can download JEE Advanced Admit Card from May 2nd week 2018 onwards. A print out of downloaded JEE Advanced admit card should be produced at the time of the exam. Original Admit card will be issued to the candidates at the time of Paper 1 examination.

JEE Advanced Fees

After online registration fees can be remitted through E-challan generated at the time of registration in any branch of SBI having core banking solution (CBS). The Application Fee mentioned below is for the year 2018. The fees are unlikely to be changed and the same will be updated here on this page once the brochure gets released.

JEE Advanced 2018 Result


Selection of candidates will be on the basis of All India Ranks calculated with the JEE advanced 2018 Scores. JEE Advanced 2018 Result will be declared in the 2nd week of June 2018. Candidates must score at least 10% in each subject and 35% in aggregate in order to be in the common merit list.

The JEE Advanced 2018 Answer Keys will be available on the official website of JEE Advanced and also on the link is given below. Candidates will be able to check the JEE Advanced Answer key official and unofficial soon after the conduct of exam. The answer keys solved by the team of experts will be displayed on the link given below.

JEE Advanced Exam pattern

  • JEE Advanced 2018 shall have two papers each of 3 hours each of the question papers will consist of three separate parts in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. 
  • The Question Paper will be in English or Hindi ( as per the choice of the student)
  • The exam will be completely in Computer-Based mode.
  • The question paper consists of three separate sections viz, Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
  • The questions will be of objective (multiple choice) type
  • The questions are designed to test Comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability of candidates.
  • In some sections, incorrect answers may be awarded negative marks.

JEE Advanced Important details

Designated JEE Advanced Participating Institutes are the engineering colleges that will grant admissions to undergraduate programmes on the basis of candidates’ JEE Advanced rank. Admission in BArch at IIT


Candidates who want to join B.Arch courses will have to appear in Architecture Aptitude Test (AAT) which will be conducted in the month of June 2018. AAT is for admission into B.Arch. course available at IIT Kharagpur & IIT Roorkee.

Architecture Aptitude Test can be taken by only those candidates who have qualified JEE Main 2018 & JEE Advanced 2018. Architecture Aptitude Test Registration is done after the declaration of JEE Advanced result and students have to give their preference for appearing in Architecture Aptitude Test at the time of filling the application form.
