NSTSE Syllabus 2022 - NSTSE is an Olympiad that measures how well a student has understood Mathematics & Science concepts and gives detailed feedback on the same, to help them improve. To make a clear perception of the Olympiad to the students, the NSTSE Syllabus, NSTSE Exam Pattern, and previous year's question paper are provided on this page below. NSTSE is conducted by the Unified Council for students of Class 1-12 in India, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Qatar, Yemen, Oman, Kuwait, Russia, Nepal, Libya, Bahrain, Iran, and Tanzania. NTSE is conducted on two levels, that is level 1 and level 2. The candidates appearing in Level 1 will be eligible to appear in Level 2. Get more details on NSTSE Syllabus 2022 on this page.

NSTSE Syllabus 2022

The NSTSE Syllabus covers around 85% of the NCERT Books of the students of respective classes, The syllabus is easy to understand for the ICSE and Other board students as well, There is no official syllabus for the NSTSE Exams. The overview of the NSTSE Exam can be found in the previous year's question papers or the exam pattern given below.

NSTSE Syllabus Class 1

Mathematics: Numbers up to 100, Ordinal numbers, Addition, Subtraction, Lengths, weight, capacity, Time, Money, and Geometrical Shapes.

Genera Science: Living & Non-living things, Plantlife, Animal life, Human body, Air, water& weather.

NSTSE Syllabus Class 2

Mathematics:Numbers, Addition,Subtraction,Multiplication,Division, Length,Weight,Capacity,Time, Money,Shapes.

General Science: Living & Non-living things, Plantlife, Animal life, Human body, Airwater& weather, Rock and Minerals, Our universe

NSTSE Syllabus Class 3

Mathematics: Numbers, Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication, Division, Fractions, Length, Weight, Capacity, Time,  Money, Shapes.

General Science: Living & Non-living things, Plantlife, Animals their food & Home. Birds: beaks claws & nests of the birds, Soil, Air water and weather, Our universe, Human body, Safety & first aid.

Critical ThinkingThis section includes a combination of skills like conscious application in real life, Logical& Inductive Reasoning, Tactics & Strategies in decision making, and higher-order thinking.

NSTSE Syllabus Class 4

Mathematics:Large Numbers,Roman numerals, Addition and Subtraction,Multiplication and division, Factors and Multiples, Fractions, Length, Weight, Capacity, Time, Geometry, Perimeter and area.

GeneralScience: Plantlife-I,Plantlife-II,Animallife-I,Animallife-II,Food & Digestion,Health & Hygiene,Teeth & Microbes,Safety & Firstaid,Our clothes,Air water and weather,Our universe.

Critical Thinking:This section includes a combination of skills like conscious application in real life, Logical & Inductive Reasoning, Tactics & Strategies in decision making, higher order thinking.

NSTSE Syllabus Class 5

Mathematics: Large Numbers, Factors and multiples,Fractions and Decimals, Measurement of Length, Weight, Capacity,Volume, Time, Temperature, Conversions, Percentages, Ratios, Speed distance and time,Simple interest, Profit and loss,Geometry,Perimeter and area.

GeneralScience:Plantlife, Animallife-II,Humanbody-I,Humanbody-II, Soil Rocks & Minerals,Air water and weather,The moon,Matter,Force work &energy.

CriticalThinking:This section includes a combination of skills like conscious application in real life, Logical & Inductive Reasoning, Tactics & Strategies in decision making, higher orderthinking.

NSTSE Syllabus Class 6

Mathematics : Knowing our Numbers, Whole Numbers, Playing with Numbers, Basic Geometrical Ideas,Understanding Elementary Shapes,Integers,Fractions, Decimals,Data Handling, Mensuration, Algebra,Ratio and Proportion,Symmetry.

Physics : Motion and Measurement of distances, Light shadows and reflections, Electricity andcircuits.

Chemistry:Sorting materials into groups,Separation of substances,Changes around us,Water.

Biology:Food & its source,components of food,Fibre to fabric,Plants,Body movements,Living organisms and their surroundings.

Critical Thinking:This section includes a combination of skills like conscious application in real life, Logical & Inductive Reasoning, Tactics & Strategies in decision making, higher orderthinking.

NSTSE Syllabus Class 7

Mathematics : Integers, Fractions and Decimals, Data Handling, Simple Equations, Lines and Angles, Triangle and its Properties, Congruence of Triangles, Comparing Quantities, Rational Numbers,Practical Geometry,Perimeter and Area,Algebraic Expressions,Exponents and Powers,Symmetry.

Physics :Motion and time,Heat,Light.

Chemistry:Physical and chemical changes,Acids bases andsalts,Winds storms andcyclones.

Biology:Nutrition in plants,nutrition in animals,Fibre to fabric,Organization in living beings,Changes and adaptation, Soil, Respiration in organisms, Transportation in living beings,Reproduction and growth in plants.

CriticalThinking:This section includes a combination of skills like conscious application in real life, Logical & Inductive Reasoning, Tactics & Strategies in decision making, higher order thinking.

NSTSE Syllabus Class 8

MathematicsRational Numbers, Linear Equations in One Variable,Understanding Quadrilaterals,Data Handling,Squares and Square Roots,Cubes and Cube Roots,Comparing Quantities,Algebraic Expressions and Identities,Visualizing Solid Shapes,Mensuration,Exponents and Powers,Direct and Inverse Proportions,Factorization.

Physics:Force and Pressure,Friction,Sound,Chemical effects of electric current,Some natural phenomena,Light.

Chemistry:Synthetic fibres and plastics,Materials:Metals and non-metals,Coal and petroleum,Combustion and flame.

Biology:Food production and management, Cell, Microorganisms, Conservation of plants and animals,Reproduction in animals.

CriticalThinking:This section includes a combination of skills like conscious application in real life, Logical & Inductive Reasoning,Tactics & Strategies in decision making,higher order thinking.

NSTSE Syllabus Class 9

Mathematics : Number Systems, Polynomials, Co-ordinate Geometry, Linear Equations in Two Variables,Introduction to Euclid’sGeometry, Lines and Angles,Triangles,Quadrilaterals, Areas of Parallelograms and Triangles, Circles, Heron’s Formula,Surface Areas and Volumes.

Physics :Motion,Force and laws of motion,Gravitation & Pressure,Work energy & power.

Chemistry:Matter in our surroundings,Is matter around us pure,atoms and molecules.

Biology : Cell, Tissues, Diversity in living organisms, Health and diseases, Improvement in foodresources.

Critical Thinking:This section includes a combination of skills like conscious application in real life, Logical & Inductive Reasoning,Tactics &Strategies in decision making,higher order thinking

NSTSE Syllabus Class 10

Mathematics: Real Numbers, Polynomials, Pair of Linear Equations in Two Variables, Quadratic Equations, Arithmetic Progressions,Triangles,Co-ordinate Geometry,Introduction toTrigonometry, Some Applications of Trigonometry, Circles, Areas Related to Circles, Surface Areas and Volumes.

Physics : Light, reflection & refraction, The human eye and the colourful world,  Electricity, Magnetics effects of electric current.

Chemistry:Chemical reactions &equations,Acids bases andsalts,Metals &non-metals,Carbon and its compounds.

Biology:Life processes,Control &Co-ordination, Reproduction,Heredity &Evolution,Our Environment.

Critical  Thinking: This section includes a combination of skills like conscious application in  real life, Logical & Inductive Reasoning,Tactics & Strategies in decision making,higher order thinking

NSTSE Syllabus Class 11

 Mathematics : Sets, Relations and Functions, Principle of Mathematical Induction, Logarithms, Complex Numbers & Quadratic Equations,Linear In-equations,Sequences and Series,Trigonometry,Straight Lines, Conic Sections, Permutations and Combinations, Binomial Theorem, Statistics, Mathematical Reasoning, Limits and Derivatives,Probability,Introduction to 3D Geometry.

Chemistry : Basic concepts of chemistry, Structure of atoms, Classification of elements & Periodicity in properties,Chemical bonding & molecular structure,States of matter:Gases & liquids, Thermodynamics, Equilibrium, Redox reaction, Hydrogen, s-Block elements, Some p-block elements,Organic chemistry:Basic principles & techniques.

NSTSE Syllabus Class 12

Mathematics: Relations and Functions, Inverse Trigonometric Functions, Matrices and Determinants,Continuity and Differentiability, Application of Derivatives,Integrals,Applicationof Integrals, Differential Equations, Vector Algebra, Three Dimensional Geometry, Probability,Linear Programming.

Chemistry : Solid state, Solutions, Electrochemistry, Chemical kinetics, Surface chemistry,Isolation of elements, p-block elements, d- and f-block elements, Coordination compounds,Haloalkanes and Haloarenes, Alcohols, Phenols and Ethers Aldehydes, Ketones and Carboxylicacids,Organic compounds containing nitrogen,Biomolecules.

Critical  Thinking: This section includes a combination of skills like conscious application in  real life, Logical & Inductive Reasoning,Tactics & Strategies in decision making,higher order thinking

NSTSE Exam Pattern

  • There will be a separate question paper for each class and the exam would be in the English language.
  • There will be objective-type questions of 1 mark each and no negative marking for wrong answers.
  • NSTSE Exam will be of 90 minutes.
  • NSTSE Syllabus is majorly based on CBSE, but the NSTSE exam is equally suitable for students following ICSE/ ISC and various state board syllabi.
  • NSTSE previous year question papers are not available but the students can purchase them from the Unified Council.

NSTSE Previous Year Question Paper

Along with the NSTSE Syllabus, and Exam Pattern, the model question paper of the same is also provided for better preparation. Each book contains three previous NSTSE Question Paper with the answer key. There would be Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects in each question paper which are suitable for all National / State Level Olympiad exams and Talent Search Examinations.
