About DBT JRF

DBT JRF 2019 - Junior Research Fellowship in Biotechnology is conducted by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT) under the Ministry of Science &Technology, Government of India. The Fellowship program is for the candidates interested in pursuing research in Biotechnology related areas. The candidates can submit their online application form before the due date. The candidates will be selected for the DBT JRF - Junior Research Fellowship in Biotechnology on the basis of an online test named Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET). The BET examination is currently being coordinated by Biotech Consortium India Limited (BCIL).

The fellowship will be initially for 3 years extendable to 2 more years based on performance. At the end of the 2nd year, the performance of JRF will be assessed and will be upgraded to SRF. 

Applicants will be selected in two categories for the Junior Fellowship Programme, and the fellowship of specified equivalence will be awarded. 

  • Category 1: Top 275 candidates
  • Category 2: Top 100 Candidates

Top 275 Students will be eligible for the Fellowship under DBT JRF Programme. The fellowship will be applicable to all institutes/ Universities in India where these candidates apply for PhD.

Candidates Selected under Category 2: These candidates will be eligible to be appointed in any of the DBT Sponsored Project. They will avail fellowship from that project and it will be equivalent to NET/GATE fellows. The candidates have to apply for those projects following the institutional selection process and will be eligible for fellowship only if they get selected.

Details

Educational Qualification: The candidates who want to apply for DBT Junior Research Fellowship 2019 must have done a course in any of the following subjects

  1. Bioinformatics
  2. M. Sc. “Molecular & Human Genetics”
  3. M. Sc. Neuroscience
  4. B.E. /B. Tech in biotechnology
  5. M. Sc. /M. Tech/ M.V. Sc. Biotechnology (with a specialisation such as agriculture, animal, veterinary, medical, marine, industrial, environmental, pharmaceutical, food, bio-resources biotechnology, biochemical engineering, biosciences and biotechnology)

Minimum Marks: The General, EWS, and OBC category candidates must have secured minimum 60% marks and 55% marks for SC, ST, Differently abled candidates in their post-graduation.

DBT JRF Application form and Process

The candidates want to appear in the biotechnology eligibility test (BET) have to submit the application form only through online mode. The candidates can fill the DBT JRF application form by following the steps given below:

STEP 1: Registration- First, the candidates have to register themselves to get the user ID and password on the official website at https://www.bcil.nic.in. The candidates have to click the link 'apply online' after that the candidates have to click on `New Registration’.  Now the candidates have to enter their Name, Date of Birth, Email Address and Mobile Number. Now the candidates have to submit the registration form; after that, the candidate will receive a User ID and password on the registered email id from the administrator. The candidates have to use this user ID and password to complete the application process.

STEP 2: Fill the Application Form- Now the candidates have to fill the application form by providing their Personal as well as Qualification Details by entering the following details:

  • Gender
  • Category
  • Marital Status
  • Select Yes for Physically Handicapped (if applicable)
  • Correspondence Address
  • Permanent Address  
  • Qualifying Exam and respective subject  
  • Choose Passed or Appearing in 2019
  • University Name and Percentage of marks obtained
  • Date of Passing

STEP 3: Upload the required Documents- Now the candidates have to upload the following required documents:

  • Recent passport size photograph (Maximum 80 Kb size in JPG/JPEG format)
  • Scanned signature (Maximum 80 Kb size in JPG/JPEG format)
  • Date of Birth Proof Certificate (Maximum 150 Kb size in JPG/JPEG format)
  • Qualifying Marks Certificate and the appearing candidates have to upload scan copy of the form in qualifying exam certificate duly filled and signed by their HOD
  • Caste Certificate (if applicable).
  • PH Certificate (if applicable)

STEP 4: Payment of the Application Fee and Test City Preference- Now the candidates have to make payment for the application form. The candidates can make payment only through online mode of payment that is net banking, credit card and debit card. In this section applicants also need to select Test City Preference.

  • BET 2019 to be conducted in 41 cities all over India, applicants can select three different preferences of cities. 

Submission of DBT JRF Application Form

The candidate has to submit the application form of DBT Junior Research Fellowship 2019 only through online mode. The candidates have not to send hard copy of the application form or any other document to the Institute via post. After successful payment of the application fee, the application submission will be completed, and the candidates need to download & print the application Acknowledgement Receipt for any future communication.

The candidates belong to General, and OBC categories have to pay non-refundable fee Rs 1000 for DBT Junior Research Fellowship 2019 application form. The candidates can make payment only through online mode, i.e. net banking, credit card, and debit card. SC, ST, Differently abled candidates have to pay Rs. 250 for the DBT Junior Research Fellowship 2019 application fee.

DBT JRF Selection Process

The candidates are selected for the DBT Junior Research Fellowship on the basis of an online test named Biotechnology Eligibility Test (BET). The candidates selected for DBT Junior Research Fellowship 2019 will have to activate their DBT Junior Research Fellowship 2019 by registering in Ph. D program in any recognised University in India within two years from the date of issue of the award letter. The selected candidates will have to go for certificate verification, and the award letter will be issued only after certificate verification.

DBT JRF BET Exam Pattern 

  • Mode of Exam: Computer-Based Test. 
  • Duration of Exam: 180 mins
  • Marking Scheme: 3 marks will be awarded for every right answer.
  • Negative Marking: There is no Negative Marking.

DBT JRF BET Syllabus

DBT JRF Merit List

Two categories of merit list will be prepared, i.e. category 1 and category 2. Total of 275 top candidates will be selected for category one fellowship. Next top 100 candidates will be selected for category 2 fellowship and they will be eligible to be appointed in any DBT sponsored project or program and will avail the fellowship from the project that is equivalent to NET & GATE.
