JEE Main Exam Pattern is available on this page. JEE Main consists of two paper that is Paper 1 (BE / BTech.) and Paper 2 (B. Arch. / B. Planning).  The exam pattern for both Paper 1 and 2 is given on this page. The exam will be conducted in two separate modes i.e. on "Online" (Computer Based Examination) or "Offline" (Pen and paper-based) mode. The choice of the paper and mode of examination is given in the table below:

JEE Main Negative Marking

Applicants will have to face the negative marking scheme in the JEE Main Exam 1 and 2 Both. Each question in both the exams (Paper 1 and Paper 2) will consist of 4 marks each except the drawing question in paper 2. There will be a deduction of 1 mark from the total if any question is answered incorrectly.

  • Answered Correctly: Applicants will be awarded 4 Marks for each of the correct answers.
  • Answered Incorrectly: There will be a deduction of 1 marks from the total score if applicants have answered incorrectly.
  • Unanswered Question: Applicants will be awarded 0 marks for each of the unanswered questions.

JEE Main Exam Pattern based on Syllabus


The Subjective syllabus of JEE Main 2018 is given below. Candidates are advised to go through the whole syllabus of each subject.

JEE Main General Guidelines

  • The candidates are required to check the details of Admit Card carefully such as Name, Paper, Date of Birth, Gender, Test Center
  • In the case of any discrepancy, communicate to JEE (Main) Secretariat immediately for necessary action.
  • Candidates are advised to reach the venue at least 30 minutes before the examination so as to complete the registration formalities well before the time.
  • The candidate must show the Admit Card on demand, for admission in the examination room/hall. A candidate without an admit card will not be permitted to the Exam centre.
  • The candidates have to immediately fill in the particulars on the Test Booklet with only Black Ball Point Pen provided in the examination hall.
