About World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship 2017

World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship 2017 invites applications from non-professional filmmakers who want to create a career in Documentary Style Film Making. The candidates selected for World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship 2017 will be mentored by filmmaker Brian Rapsey while shooting in Kerala, India on 12 days all-expense paid tripThis opportunity is apt for a keen amateur with a lust for adventure and burning desire to be a filmmaker.

  • The interested candidate needs to make a 3-minute documentary with fulfilling the challenge to go out and interview an amazing adventurer or inspiring traveller and bring to life their compelling travel story around one of the following themes:
    • 'Courage'
    • 'Kindness'
    • 'Acceptance'
  • To complete the application process, candidates are required to submit a 3-minute video based on ‘Profile of a Person who inspires you to Travel the World’. The last date for making the application is 18 July 2017, and the winners will be announced on 9 August 2017.

  • Nationality: World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship is open to candidates of all nationalities.
  • Age: The candidate needs to be at least 18 at the time of making the application.
  • Professional Status: The applications are open for non-professional candidates who want to build a career in Documentary Style Film Making.
  • Participation: Only individual applications are acceptable.
  • Language Proficiency: The candidates are required to possess high proficiency in English as it will be the language of communication.

World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship 2017 Reward

World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship 2017 Application form and Process

The application process of World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship is completely online and the applicants need to submit a video to complete the application process. The details of the application process are as follow:

Mode of Application: The applications are to be made online using the online application portal.

Video: The application form is to be submitted along with a 3-minute Video, which should be made keeping in mind the following:

  • Duration: 3 minutes
  • Theme: The video needs to be based on ‘Profile of a Person who Inspires you to Travel the World’
  • Language: The language of the video needs to be English.
  • The Videos may include still images but the candidate should make sure that they demonstrate their skills with the moving images.
  • No team entries are allowed, each applicant has to make an individual entry.

World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship Application Submission 


To complete the submission of the application form, candidates need to upload the video on any video sharing platform such as YouTube or Vimeo & share the link in the application form.

World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship 2017 Selection Process

The selection of the candidates will be on the basis of the video being submitted by them along with the application form. A good video must have the following:

  • Applicant should utilise the 3-minute timeframe to convey a strong narrative.
  • Demonstrate strong filmmaking skills
  • Focus on an individual person.
  • Be visually engaging and original.
  • Show us your interviewing skills and ability to coax a good story from your subject

The submitted video will be selected for the World Nomads Travel Film Scholarship 2017 through a judging process. Brian Rapsey, Gregg Bleakney and Benjamin Chesterton will be the judge of the competition. To be selected for the scholarship, the participants need to convince the judging panel through their application that they have the spirit of adventure and a passion for travel filmmaking. A good travel documentary should be the following:

  • Convey a strong narrative in English (or with English subtitles)
  • Focus on a specific travel story within a 3-minute timeframe
  • Show us your interviewing skills and ability to coax a good story from your subject
  • Demonstrate strong filmmaking skills
  • Show originality
  • Be visually engaging

The scholarship recipient, along with the shortlist of the best films will be published on the World Nomads website on 9 August 2017.
