About National Overseas Scholarship for Students with Disabilities

National Overseas Scholarship for Students with Disabilities: The registration is open for the National Overseas Scholarship for Students with Disabilities.  The eligible candidates can apply through this page. The application form is available below. National Overseas Scholarship for Students with Disabilities is for the disabled candidates who want to pursue their Master’s/ PhD from countries other than India. To be eligible for the National Overseas Scholarship for Students with Disabilities, the candidate must be a Graduate/Post-graduate with at least 55% marks in the previous examination with his/her age below 35 years. National Overseas scholarship for students with disabilities - Following Areas

  • The scholarship is being offered by the Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India to help disabled candidates who want to go for higher education studies in the following fields:
    • Engineering & Management
    • Agricultural Science & Medicine
    • Pure Sciences & Applied Sciences
    • Commerce, Accounting & Finance
    • Humanities, Social Science & Fine Arts including Law.
  • The scholarship will be offered for a period of 3 or 4 years depending on the course of study selected by the applicant.
  • The benefits of the scholarship include Maintenance Allowance, Contingency Allowance, Medical Insurance, Tuition Fee and various other perks.
  • The application form can be downloaded from the official website and submitted offline throughout the year.

  • Nationality: The Scholarship scheme is only for Indian Nationals.
  • Age: The maximum age of candidate should be 35 years.
  • Academic Qualification:
    • For Master’s: Applicant should have a Bachelor’s degree with minimum 55% marks.
    • For Ph.D.: Applicant should possess a relevant Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks.
    • Note: Experienced candidates who are on lien with their employer will be preferred.
  • Income: The total annual income of the candidate or family from all sources should not be more than Rs. 6 lakh.
  • Limitation per Family:  Maximum 2 children from same family/parents are allowed to be benefited from the scholarship.

  • Number of Awards: There are total 20 scholarships out of which 6 scholarships (Approx. 30%) are reserved for female candidates. The category-wise distribution for every field of study are as follow:

  • Duration of Scholarship: The duration of thescholarshipdepends upon the level of study undertaken by the applicant:
    • For Master’s : 3 years
    • For PhD:4 years
  • Maintenance Allowance: The amount of annual maintenance allowance depends upon the country where the applicant will opt to study, the details are:
    • For the United Kingdom: The candidates will get an annual maintenance allowance of 9,900 GBP (Approx. INR 10 lakh).
    • For the United States and other countries: The candidates will receive an annual maintenance allowance of 15,400 USD (Approx. INR 10 lakh).
  • Contingency Allowance:  In order to cover the expenses related to books, study tour, essential apparatus etc. candidates will get annual contingency allowance as per the country they want to study in:
    • For the United Kingdom: The annual contingency allowance is 1100 GBP (Approx. INR 1 lakh).
    • For the United States and other countries: The student will get annual contingency allowance of 1500 USD (Approx. INR 1 lakh).
  • Air Fare: The actual amount of air passage from India to the educational institute & back, by economy class and the shortest route using National Career will be provided to the candidates.
  • Visa Fee & Poll Tax: The actual amount of Visa Fee & Poll tax will be paid.
  • Medical Insurance: The actual amount as charged for the medical insurance will be admissible.
  • Tuition Fee & Equipment Allowance: The candidates will get prescribed equipment allowance i.e. Rs. 1500 and the actual amount of Tuition fee will be admissible.
  • Earnings from research/teaching assistants: The candidate can supplement their prescribed allowance by contributing to research or by providing teaching assistance by 2400 USD/1560 GBP (Approx. 1.5 lakh INR).

Step-1: Visit the official website and navigate the link for Application Form.

Step-2: Click on the link to download the application form from the official website or from the link given below.

Step-3: Now, candidates have to fill up the application form by entering complete details in the given boxes.

Step-4: Take the printout of the same for further use.

Required Documents: In order to complete the application process, the completely filled application form should be accompanied by the following documents:

  • The Duplicate copy of the application form.
  • Proof of Date of Birth- Certificate of Passing X standard or Birth Certificate.
  • Certificate of Disability.
  • Voter ID card.
  • Aadhar Card.
  • Residential Proof, if the address mentioned in the application is different from the address mentioned in the Voter ID/Aadhar Card.
  • Photocopy of Applicant’s PAN Card.
  • Photocopy of PAN Card of Father/Mother/Guardian/Spouse
  • Photocopies of Educational documents i.e. copy of certificates and mark sheets in support of Educational qualifications.
  • Income Tax Certificate in prescribed proforma
  • Income Tax Return of the candidate/parents/guardians whose income is considered to determine the income-ceiling
  • Details of the proposed study (in not more than 500 words)
  • Copy of admission papers from the accredited University/Institutions
  • Copies of the offer of admission by the university/prospectus etc.
  • Self-attested certificate to the effect that you are not availing any other scholarship for the same Course of study.

National Overseas Scholarship for Students with Disabilities Selection Process

On the basis of the applications received, the Screening Committee will select candidates for personal interview.

The candidates shortlisted by screening committee will be interview by Selection Committee to finalize the candidates for the award of the National Overseas Scholarship for students with Disabilities.

National Overseas Scholarship for Students with Disabilities (NoS for SwDs) was launched in 2014-15. The scholarship scheme is provided to Students with Disabilities to Pursue Programmes in Higher Education outside India. Under this Scheme, there is a provision for providing financial assistance to the students with disabilities who got finally selected to pursuing the Master’s Level Courses and PhD Abroad in the Following specified fields of study:-

  2. Pure Sciences & Applied Sciences
  3. Agricultural Science & Medicine
  4. Commerce, Accounting & Finance
  5. Humanities, Social Science & Fine Arts
