About Global Landscapes Forum Photo Competition

  • Global Landscapes Forum Photo Competition 2016 is part of the Global Landscapes Forum that will be convened in Marrakesh on November 16, 2016, parallel to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change’s (UNFCCC) 21st Conference of the Parties (COP21).
  • Candidates have to submit the pictures based on the following five themes: 
  • Landscape restoration

    • Food security

    • Measuring and tracking progress

    • Financing climate action

    • Tenure and community rights

  • The competition is open to  professionals and hobby photographers alike

  • All the selected pictures will be displayed in Global Landscapes Forum photo exhibition at the Palais des Congrès, potentially visited by 2,500 people 
  • One selected picture will be used for the Forum’s selfie wall, part of the social media campaign reaching millions worldwide

Global Landscapes Forum Photo Competition Application form and Process

Participants need to apply online and also submit their Photos. Only 3 photographs per participant are permitted.

About the picture: Candidates have to submit the picture as per the following specifications:

  • Format: .jpg
  • Pixels: 1,024 pixels
  • Size: 2MB maximum
  • Title of the photograph and the photographer’s name should be specified in the .jpg file name
  • Short Caption: A short caption describing the place and the subject where the photograph was taken.
  • Brief Background: A brief background story that explains which aspects the photo is connecting to and why. Some ideas are:
    • Development
    • Environmental aspects
    • Climate change
    • Agriculture and food security
    • Indigenous communities
    • Technology
    • Others

Submission of the Photos

Candidates have to submit the duly filled in Application form along with maximum 3 photos online only.

Global Landscapes Forum Photo Competition Selection Process

There will be 2 Prizes: The audience’s choice and The jury choice

The audience’s choice

  • The picture voted as most popular by the online audience will win this prize
  • Voting process:  Voting will take place on the official website and all photographers will receive a direct url to their picture to share it widely with friends and followers.
  • The picture with the most votes in this category will be announced on December 2016, to give the Forum attendees a chance to participate.

The Jury choice

An international jury will evaluate all pictures based on their quality and the relevance to the competition topic. Based on their assessment, the jury will select:

  • Winner of the first prize
  • Winner of the second prize
  • Top 20 pictures 

Result: The jury will announce the results of the contest in the month of December 2016.

How the selected candidates will be intimated: The photo competition organizers will inform the photographers whose images have been selected for the exhibition.
