Study Mandarin in CBSE schools from Class 6
CBSE has introduced a new opportunity for students to learn a different language all together by deciding to offer Mandarin as an elective course in Class 6 from the next session onwards.
After the last year’s pilot project to teach Mandarin in a few schools and its success, CBSE has taken up the option to offer it as an elective course in all of its affiliated schools. The board hopes that this will help students in developing proficiency in new languages from the very start.
CBSE currently offers 32 language courses out of which 12 are foreign languages. Mukta Chaterjee of Centre point school agrees with the decision of the board and claims that it displays the foresightedness of the board. However, the challenge posed in front of the schools is to get faculty members to teach the course.
