The government of Bihar has decided to conduct Teacher Eligibility Test for science and maths teachers as a part of it ongoing 25-day long teacher appointment camps due not being able to get enough candidates for these subjects in government schools.

While 14000 seats being available of which only 3000 are expected to be filled as suggested by the state government, for primary and upper primary schools, the condition is worse in secondary schools where science teachers refuse to turn up as Niyojit Teachers (contract teachers) due to very low monthly remuneration of just Rs 11,000

The appointment camp will close on 22 February after which the education department would assess the turnout and the vacancies remaining and based on the vacancies, TET will be conducted. Special TET would also be held for reserved categories like SC/ST/ BC-I and women where less number of candidates were turning up for appointment as said by Amarjeet Sinha.

In response to a question, Sinha said the state government is considering to make a fresh request to the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE) to allow appointment of untrained teachers in the secondary schools also in the BC-II and general categories, just as it had allowed for SC/ST and BC-I categories however, this will not be done till NCTE grants the permission.

He also said that it was these untrained teachers who were creating nuisance after a point of time and the government will not act under pressure from them.
