CBSE awarded 33 teachers for their excellence in the field

In the lead up to Teacher's Day celebration, The Central Board of Secondary education (CBSE) shortlisted and awarded thirty three teachers from around the county for their excellence and commitment. Six of the thirty three teachers were from the nation's capital, Delhi -clearly establishing the quality of education it is known to provide.

The selection of the teachers was based on considerations such as academic efficiency, innovation, genuine interest, and love for education, perseverance and reputation in the society. Awards were also presented to fifteen principals who qualified under the 'mentor' category. Mentors were identified by their collaboration and handholding through regular visits to clusters of schools.

The awards were presented to the teachers by the Union minster of Human Resources Development, Mrs. Smriti Irani. She addressed the gathering and highlighted the importance of teachers in inculcating values in students. She also lauded the efforts of the teachers and said that it is their efforts that will liberate students, who in turn will pave way for a stronger, prosperous and healthy India.

6 teachers were from Delhi

From Delhi, Jyoti Arora, principal, Mount Abu Public School, Sector 5 Rohini; Rema Alex Daniel, principal, Summer Fields School, Kailash Colony; Dhirendra Mohan Sharma, principal, G D Goenka Public School, Vasant Kunj; Promil Bali, principal, Titiksha Public School, Rohini; Sunita Tanwar, Delhi Public School, Dwarka and Tushar Deshpande, physical education teacher, Ryan International School, Vasant Kunj received the award.

The award consisted of a certificate, shawl and a cash prize of Rs. 25,000. In an attempt at transparency, for the first time the Central Board of Secondary Education had made the shortlisted names of teachers public to invite responses from the public.
