At present, the state comprises of 750 Engineering and Polytechnic Colleges which have got their approval from All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE). Out of the 750 (Engineering + Polytechnic) colleges, 515 Engineering Colleges offers admission on the basis of KCET. In this list of 515 colleges, 140 colleges also offer admission on the basis of COMEDK.
- KCET entrance exam is only for Karnataka domiciled students and is for admission in Government, private & autonomous engineering institutes.
- COMEDK is an all India entrance exam for admission in private seats in Karnataka private & autonomous engineering colleges.
Govt. Seats in Karnataka Private Colleges: In the private engineering colleges, there are government seats which are filled through KCET. The Tuition fee charged for the KCET seats is much lower than what is charged for the seats filled through COMEDK or Management Quota or Direct Admission.
