How to get Admission in Architecture Institutes

To get admission to the reputed Architecture/Planning Colleges and Universities across India, students will have to appear in the listed below two examinations. The Scores of the JEE Main and NATA Exam are accepted by the colleges in India. 

  • JEE Main Paper 2: Students who want to get admission in top national level private and government architecture institutions can appear in an entrance exam named JEE Main Paper 2 which is conducted by the CBSE for undergraduate programmes in B. Architecture and B. Planning. The entrance exam paper consists Mathematics, an Aptitude Test and a Drawing test.
  • NATA Exam: National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA) is another entrance examination for selection of deserving student for admission in various architecture programs. NATA is an online test withdrawing test conducted by the National Institute of Advanced Studies and Architecture in association with the Council of Architecture (COA). These entrance exams measure aesthetic sensitivity, critical thinking, perception, observation and architectural awareness.
  • AAT: Architecture Aptitude Test ( AAT)is mandatory for the admission to the two most prominent college of India i.e. IIT Roorkee and IIT Kharagpur. Only those students can take the test who have cleared the JEE Main and Advanced Exam both.

Eligibility for Architecture Admission (B.Arch)


The B Arch programme is a regular 5-year course which offers students the opportunity to explore the numerous facets of architecture and its scope in society.  Most specialisations are taken up at the post-graduation level and include landscape design, urban design and planning, ecological management, environmental design, urban conservation, heritage management, among many others. The Diploma in architecture is also available in some institutes as either full time or part time courses and the eligibility for the same is given below. 

  • IITs
    •  Class 12 with Mathematics /Physics/ Chemistry subjects.
    • A score within the top 1.5 Lakhs in JEE (main) + JEE (Advanced) + Aptitude test for Architecture. Aptitude test for architecture will be taken by only the students who have qualified JEE Advance.
