About UNESCO/PeopleaTMs Republic of China (The Great Wall) fellowships

UNESCO/People’s Republic of China (The Great Wall) fellowships programme is co-sponsored by UNESCO for the academic year of 2018-19. UNESCO/People’s Republic of China (The Great Wall) fellowships is conducted by Government of the People’s Republic of China and co-sponsored by UNESCO. The Fellowship provides seventy-five (75) fellowships for advanced studies at undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

UNESCO/People's Republic of China Scholarship is a one-year program mostly to be conducted in English. However, in some exceptional cases, candidates may be required to study the Chinese language before taking up research/study in their fields of interest. The Application process has been started from 12 February and the last date to apply is 25 March 2018.

Details
  • Candidates must hold at least the Bachelor’s Degree or the equivalent, or the Master Degree/above when applying
  • The candidates must have English proficiency
  • The candidates must be in good health, both physically and mentally.

UNESCO/PeopleaTMs Republic of China (The Great Wall) fellowships Reward

Facilities offered by Government of the People’s Republic of China are as follows:

  • Monthly Living Allowance: Chinese Yuan Renminbi (CNY) 3000 for general scholars; CNY 3500 for senior scholars 
  • Tuition Waiver
  • Accommodation:
    • Free University dormitory or accommodation subsidy.
    • If the host university required students to live on campus, then it will accommodate scholarship students in university dormitory usually twin room
    • If the host university permits students to live off campus, the university will provide monthly/ quarterly/ accommodation subsidy
      • Subsidy in Accommodation : The Undergraduate, master’s students, and the general scholars will get CNY 700 per month. The Doctoral students and senior scholars will get CNY 1000 per month.
  • Comprehensive Medical Insurance and Protection Scheme for International students in China.

Facilities offered by UNESCO are as follows:

  • Airfare: One round-trip international travel to and from China
  • Monthly allowance: A monthly pocket allowance of USD 150
  • A termination allowance: A termination allowance of USD 200 to cover excess luggage charges at the time of fellows’ return to their home country in addition to the living allowance granted by the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

It is to be noted that no allowance to finance or lodge married couples or family members will be granted.

UNESCO/PeopleaTMs Republic of China (The Great Wall) fellowships Application form and Process

To apply for UNESCO/ People’s Republic of China (The Great Wall) fellowship international students have to fill both the Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC) online application form and Chinese University Form. However, the letter of admission in a Chinese University is not mandatory.

The candidates need to specify 3 possible host institutions in China indicating one field of study as a personal preference.

Documents to be enclosed to Application Form: The application must be endorsed by the relevant Government Body (The National Commission or Permanent Delegation). 

  • 3 Photographs.
  • Notarized photocopies of Diplomas and certificates, and school-certified transcripts of complete academic records. (The documents must be translated in English).
  • Pre-admission Letter from designated Chinese University (if available);
  • Recommendation letter: Two Letters of recommendation by professors or associates familiar with the work of the candidate
  • A study or research proposal containing no less than 400 words (in English) of the post-graduate study to be undertaken during the candidate’s stay in China
  • Foreigner Physical Examination form to be completed, stamped and or signed
  • English proficiency certificate stamped and/or signed.

UNESCO/PeopleaTMs Republic of China (The Great Wall) fellowships Selection Process

The National Commissions of the selected fellows will be duly informed by UNESCO. The UNESCO and the Chinese authorities will select seventy-five most qualified candidates.

  • The successful Candidates will be informed in the month of August 2018. The candidates who are not contacted by 15 August 2018, should consider that their application has not been selected.
