About Shell Ideas 360 Global Competition

  • Shell Ideas 360 is a global competition organised by Shell International Limited for students to develop game-changing ideas for tackling issues related to Energy, Water and Food resources around the globe.
  • The theme of Shell Ideas360 is “People & Planet – the Energy, Water and Food Challenge”. All teams will be requested to develop an innovative idea and proposal related to Energy, Water, and Food.
  • The contest aims at fostering innovation and thus, to execute these innovations in reality.Students participating will go through an exciting journey of learning and discovery which will enable them to expand their horizon of knowledge.
  • The contest comprises 3 stages and participants have to clear all the stages in order to win. Each team member of the winning team will be offered an exciting trip of National Geographic Adventure along with a trophy.

Shell Ideas 360 Global Competition Eligibility Criteria

Details
  • Nationality: The competition is open for citizens of all nations except  Province of Quebec and Canada.
  • Age: Participation in the Competition is open to any person who (i) is, or will be aged 18 or over by December 01,2015 and
  • Academic Qualification: Should be currently studying as a full time undergraduate or postgraduate at a recognised degree awarding university or other equivalent higher education establishment.

Not Eligible to participate

  • Students pursuing M.Phil. or Ph.D. degree are not eligible.
  • Shell's employees (present or past) and other people associated with shell by any means (intern/apprentices/trainees) are not eligible.

Shell Ideas 360 Global Competition Reward

The rewards offered to the candidates depend upon the stage in which they participated. The details related to the prizes at various stages are as follow:

  • Stage 1: Each member of participating team will get a 3-month subscription to WIRED’s interactive digital edition (accessible on iPad, iPhone and Kindle Fire) along with Certificate of Competition.
  • Stage 2: Each Individual Participant and Team Participant selected to progress to Stage 2 of the Competition will receive Certificate of the Competition along with a one-year subscription to National Geographic, All Access (Digital and Print Edition). This includes 12 monthly print issues and digital editions for iPad®, iPhone® + Online Archive Subscription is subject to National Geographic terms and conditions.
  • Stage 3: Each member of the five finalist teams will receive a trip to the United Kingdom, a personalized medal and certificate of completion.
  • Shell 360 Ideas winner gets the Grand Prize: Winner of the competition will receive the grand prize of a National Geographic Expedition.The approximate value of the prize is US$10,000 and is dependent on the National Geographic Expedition chosen and the geographical location of a winner.

Idea Shell

  • Participate as Individual or Team: You can enter either as an individual or as part of a team of up to three people. If you decide to enter as a team, you will need to nominate a Team Captain who can submit an idea on the team’s behalf.
  • Register Online-Register and set up your personal profile at the official website >>Register for Shell Ideas 360 Competition.
  • Nominate a member of Academic Staff: Each participant/team will also be required to nominate a member of academic staff from their University to act as a university sponsor throughout the individual’s or team’s participation in Shell Ideas360.
  • Develop an Innovative Idea and proposal related to one or more of these challenges.
  • Ask for Suggestion and Comment-If you wish, you can use your workspace to publish your draft ideas to share with the Shell Ideas360 community, asking for comments and feedback.

Competition documents and products provided (proposals, submissions, videos and presentations) are all required to be in English.

Shell Ideas 360 Global Competition Selection Process

Stage 1: The participating individual/ team has to provide basic information about an idea that could help solve Energy, Water or Food issues, including the following details:

  • Title (6 words)
  • The Elevator Pitch- A description of the idea in a couple of sentences (60 words)
  • Image/Photo representing the idea
  • Selection of Category- Energy/Water/Food
  • Self-Assessment- The Participant has to assess the following before submitting the idea.
    • How novel is your idea?
    • How doable is your idea?
    • How relevant is your idea?
    • How valuable is your idea?

All submitted ideas will  be reviewed by Shell Reviewers and up to 100 individual participants/teams will be selected to proceed to Stage 2.

Selection will be based on the review process, done by the team of Shell. Reviewers will assess the strength of each idea in terms of originality, innovation, and execution.

Participants shortlisted for Stage 2 will be informed by January 16, 2017

Stage 2:  (100 ideas moves to Stage 2)

The selected teams from stage 1(Up to 100 teams/individual participants) will be selected to develop their idea further.

If your idea is chosen, you’ll have a couple of months to submit a:

  • Detailed report in PDF format 
  • Video presentation 
    (up to 3 minutes long)
  • :From this year, the reviewers have asked for the image included to ‘represent’ the ideas submitted. Images used should be with the consent of the reference.
  • Each proposal should explain the idea of the individual/team in detail and should demonstrate that why their idea should be shortlisted for Stage 3.
  • All individual participants/teams will also have support by phone/email from a Shell Mentor and Subject Matter Experts to help then to develop their idea.
  • Participants can contact their mentors by phone/email.

Deadline for submission of detailed report and video- March 20, 2017

Participants Shortlisted for Stage 3 are informed by May 01,2017

Stage 3: Final Stage- (5 Ideas move to Stage 3).

  • All Stage 2 ideas will be evaluated, and five teams/individual
    participants will be selected to present their ideas at the Final Event.
  • The winner will be selected and announced at the end of this event on July 01, 2017.
