About LAMP Fellowship 2017

LAMP Fellowship provides an opportunity for young Indians to be mentored by a Member of Parliament of India for a period of 11 months. The LAMP Fellows work full time with the assigned MP, from the beginning of the Monsoon session (Mid June) to the end of the Budget session (May) of Parliament. The fellows will be assigned an MP who is actively engaged in Parliament and can be from any house of the parliament and from any political party.

LAMP Fellowship is a full-time job for the fellows and not an internship and it is conducted by PRS Legislative Research

LAMP (Legislative Assistants to Members of Parliament) Fellows will be based in Delhi during the LAMP Fellowship Period and will work closely with the assigned MP and help them by providing the extensive research support for their parliamentary work.

  • A significant amount of the research will be Parliament related, such as inputs for bills, parliamentary Questions, policy discussions and committee meetings.
  • LAMP Fellows are also required to provide background research for the conferences and media events MPs attend in their official capacity.
  • They may also be given the work of visiting the constituency of the MP.

After the LAMP Fellowship, several fellows have pursued advanced degrees in institutions like ISB, IIMs, Yale University, Columbia University, Oxford and LSE. Others have chosen to work in areas such as policy research, political consulting, public relations and the development sector. Some Fellows have continued to work with MPs.

The applications will be accepted online and the last date to complete the LAMP Fellowship Application form is 12 February 2017.

The selection of the fellows will be very competitive and the final selection will be done after a personal interview. LAMP Fellows will get a monthly stipend of Rs. 17,000 and an additional allowance of Rs. 3000 to cover other expenses such as local conveyance, telephone calls, internet charges etc.

LAMP Fellowship 2017 Eligibility Criteria

Gender  Both

Class/ Age  Below 25 years
Details Nationality: The LAMP Fellowship is only for Indian Citizens only.
  • Candidates having PIO/OCI card will not be considered.
Age: The age of the candidate needs to be less than 25 years that is born on or after January 1, 1992.


Academic Qualification: 
The candidate needs to have Bachelor’s degree, candidates having higher education can also apply but having higher education will not give them upper hand while selection.

  •  The Fellows cannot pursue any additional academic or professional assignments during their engagement as a LAMP Fellow.

LAMP Fellowship 2017 Reward

The selected fellows will be working directly with some of the active Member of Parliaments, LAMP fellows will provide research support to these MPs. The candidates will get the following benefits:

  • Number of Fellows: 40
  • Duration of the LAMP Fellowship: 11 months.
  • Monthly Stipend: Rs. 17,000 per month.
  • Other allowance: Rs. 3000 to cover up other expenses related to the local conveyance, telephone calls, internet charges etc.
  • Office Space:  LAMP fellows will not be provided a specific office space rather it will depend on the arrangement that the MP and LAMP Fellow arrive at and candidates are required to use their own computers or internet connections.
  • Reporting: The candidates are required to report to the MPs on a daily basis while PRS will conduct weekly review meetings with all LAMP Fellows.
  • LAMP Fellows are given 2 leaves in a month.

LAMP Fellowship Application Process

LAMP Fellowship Application Form consist of 9 sections. They are as follows:

  • Personal Information and contact details
  • Academic Qualification: Bachelor's Degree
  • Academic Qualification: Post Graduate Degree (If Applicable)
  • Academic Qualification: Other Degree/Course (If Applicable)
  • Work Experience (excluding internships)
  • Statement of Intent (500 words)
  • Short essay on a legislative/policy issue (500 words)
  • Other Achievements

Shortlisted Candidates also have to submit the references.

LAMP Fellowship 2017 Selection Process

The candidates interested in fellowship will undergo the following selection process and details are as follows:

  • Shortlisting: The initial shortlisting of the candidates will be done on the basis of their application form and statement of intent and a short essay on a policy or legislative issue.
  • Interview: Shortlisted candidates will be interviewed telephonically or in person, shortlisted candidates will be asked to provide further references.

LAMP Fellows research topics as diverse as defence, food security, environment, economics and foreign affairs. Research tasks may include 

  • Legislative research
  • Analysing data
  • Framing parliamentary Questions
  • Background research parliamentary debates
  • Research for committee meetings
  • Drafting Private Member Bills
  • Media-related work including drafting press releases, preparing interventions for TV appearances
  • Research for constituency-related issues
  • Interacting with stakeholders

Training to the Fellows

  • PRS conducts intensive training which is mandatory for the LAMP fellows to attend and through this, the fellows are familiarised with basic parliamentary and legal frameworks, parliamentary procedures, information sources and research tools.
  • PRS also conducts workshops on important topics where Fellows can interact with experts and policy makers. In past years, workshops were conducted on topics like Education, Health, Media Regulation and Public Finance.
