About Prathibha Scholarship

KSCSTE Prathibha Scholarship Scheme is implemented under the STARS - Students with Talent and Aptitude for Research in Science programme of Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment (KSCSTE). The application for Prathibha Scholarship is has started. Prathibha Scholarship Programme aims to motivate aspiring students to pursue higher studies to take a career in Science and is offered to students who have qualified meritoriously in the Higher Secondary Examination from Kerala for pursuing Degree/ Post Graduate courses in Basic/ Natural Science in Institutions/ Universities in India.

Latest Update - Registration Dates for Prathibha scholarship has extended and students can now apply for the scholarship up to 15 February

Given below are the tentative dates to keep in mind related to Prathibha Scholarship

Pratibha Scholarship Amount

A total of 100 Prathibha Scholarship will be given to the selected students. Candidates that are selected for the Prathibha Scholarship Program will receive the scholarship amount as per the following:

  • 10% of Scholarships are reserved for SC/ST Students.
  • 50% of scholarships reserved for Girl Students

Prathibha Scholarship is divided into two segments, namely:

  • Prathibha Scholarship A: It is awarded to meritorious students who have excelled in Class 12 Board examination and pursuing Degree Courses in Basic and Natural Sciences.
    • The scholarship is awarded for three year Degree programmes and first three years of Integrated M.Sc programmes
  • Prathibha Scholarship B: It is awarded to students who have already availed Prathibha Scholarship - A for their Degree Courses and are pursuing a Post-graduate course in Basic Sciences. 
    • The scholarship is awarded for M.Sc programmes and 4th & 5th year of Integrated M.Sc Programmes.

  • Duration of Prathibha Scholarship A: It is initially sanctioned for three years of study of B.Sc. Degree course and for the first three years of study of Integrated M.Sc. Degree course. A total number of scholarships awarded in a year is 100.

Subjects Eligible for Prathibha Scholarship

 Given below are the subjects that are eligible for Prathibha Scholarship. Applicant should have secured admission in any one of the following 23 subjects either as Major/Honours or their combination anywhere in India.

The total number of Scholarships are allotted for three Broad subjects areas based on the ‘Subject Main’ opted by the student for the Degree Course, with a weightage of 30% for Mathematical Sciences, 40% for Physical Sciences and 30% for Life Sciences

Prathibha Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

The following candidates are eligible to apply for Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment Scholarship:"

Minimum Marks Required for Prathibha Scholarship

  • The candidates of Kerala origin who attained 90% or above in Higher Secondary Board Examination (from any board i.e. CISCE/CBSE/State Board of Kerala)/or equivalent grade. Also the minimum 90% aggregate marks or equivalent grade for all science subjects in total. (80% marks in case of SC/ST Students)
  • The candidates should have secured admission in B.Sc. Degree/Integrated M.Sc. Degree. courses in the academic year of 2020-21 in any of the recognised Indian University/ college/ Institutes.
  • The students pursuing Basic or Natural Sciences are only eligible to apply for this scholarship.

Not Eligible for Prathibha Scholarship

  • Students currently getting any other scholarship are not eligible to apply for this scholarship. (This is not applicable for SC/ST students)
  • SC/ST students can apply for this scholarship even if they are receiving an additional scholarship from any other source. (provided they are receiving the lump sum amount for the additional scholarship)

In case the Prathibha scholar desires to avail any other scholarship after receipt of the Prathibha scholarship, the Prathibha scholarship amount received by them should be refunded with immediate effect from the date of avail of the other scholarship.

Documents to be uploaded for availing scholarship

The students whose name has appeared in the Provisional Rank List have to upload the following documents

  • Duly signed datasheet
  • Copy of HSE Mark list
  • Terms and Conditions ”signed by the applicant in the specified format
  • Proof of Kerala Nativity
  • Community Certificate for SC/ST only

Prathibha Scholarship Renewal

The Prathibha Scholarship was initially released for students studying the 1st year of Undergraduate Programme. The renewal of Prathibha Scholarship is allowed only when the candidate fulfils the required criteria. Renewal Criteria of the Prathibha Scholarship Programme has been given below for the students to check out

  • B.Sc Course: Students securing a minimum of 60% aggregate marks in all the subjects in the previous year examination can apply for the renewal of the scholarship for the subsequent years of study.
  • M.Sc Course: A candidate pursuing M.Sc. course receives the Prathibha Scholarship Amount only on the continuation of the scholarship for the Postgraduate course provided s/he secured a minimum of 75% marks in aggregate for the Degree course. A candidate wanting Prathibha scholarship renewal is also required to submit documents as mentioned below
    • Duly filled Datasheet with necessary endorsement. 
    • Copies of mark list of previous year’s examinations.
    • Advance receipt duly signed by the student.
    • ‘Undertaking’ in prescribed format {Applicable for those who are yet to receive the mark list from University

Prathibha Scholarship Selection Process

The Prathibha Scholarship will be awarded as per the ranking based on the marks secured in Higher Secondary Examination for all science subjects

  • The decision regarding grant of Scholarships will be taken by the Research Advisory Committee (RAC) of WSD.
  • Selection will be made as per ranking based on marks scored in all science subjects in class 12 or equivalent.
  • In the case of a tie under the KSCSTE Prathibha Scholarship Programme, applicants securing same marks in the science subjects will be selected based on the marks of the subjects selected (Main) for the degree course. Further, if there is any tie, then the evaluation will be made on the order of marks scored in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics respectively.
  • The number of scholarship to be given will be decided in proportion to the number of eligible applicants in the corresponding Boards.
  • 10% of the total scholarships shall be given to for SC/ST candidates
  • A minimum of  50% of the scholarships are set aside for female candidates

The provisional rank list (PRL) of selected candidates will be published in the KSCSTE website in November.

Steps to be followed after Provisional Selection

On confirmation of acceptance of Prathibha Scholarship, the applicant should submit the following documents for Disbursement: Such students will only be considered for the final ranking

  • Status verification certificate
  • Signed the copy of “Terms & Conditions" on a Stamp Paper of Rs. 50
  • Advance Receipt for the scholarship amount for 1st year duly signed by the student
  • Undertaking: Once provisionally selected candidates have to confirm their willingness to avail Prathibha Scholarship by submitting an Undertaking that they will neither apply nor accept any other scholarship for the current course of study.

The students who submit the above-given documents will be considered for the scholarship.

Prathibha Scholarship Result 2020-21

The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology & Environment (KSCSTE) Result will be released between April and May 2021 by the Department of Science & Technology (DST), Government of Kerala. The list of the candidates who get selected for the KSCSTE Prathibha Scholarship is given below.

The Department of Science & Technology, Government of Kerala has released the provisional rank list of the selected candidates for Prathibha Scholarship. 

  • Students from rank 94 to 100 who are selected provisionally from the waiting list need to submit the list of documents to the KSCSTE Office.

Documents to be submitted at KSCSTE Office

The candidates from rank 94 to 100 are selected provisionally from the waiting list need to submit the documents in availing Prathibha Scholarship. Such candidates need to submit the following documents

  • Terms and condition: The candidates need to send the terms and conditions printed on stamp paper worth Rs 50 and signed by the student in all pages of the document.
  • Undertaking: An undertaking on non-acceptance of any other scholarship/grant for the present course of study.
  • Status Verification Certificate: The status verification which should duly sign by the Head of the Institution where the student is pursuing the Degree Course should also be submitted to the KSCSTE office.
