About Charpak Master's Scholarship

  • Charpak Scholarship 2017 for Master's Program is organised by the Embassy of France in India in memory of Georges Charpak who won the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1992.
  • The Charpak scholarship program provides funding for three types of Programs:
  • Charpak Scholarship is offered for one or two years to Indian students who want to pursue full-time Masters course in France. A student from any academic background can apply for this scholarship.
  • The last date to submit Charpak Scholarship 2017 Application for Master's Program is June 2017.
  • The Charpak Scholarship 2017 Results will be announced in last week of June 2017.

Charpak Master's Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

Region All India
Class/ Age Graduate with maximum 30 years of age.
  • Nationality: Must be an Indian national residing in India.
  • Age: Must be maximum 30 years of age.
  • Must be enrolled at an institution of higher learning in India OR employed for maximum 3 years at the time of submission of the application.
  • Must have applied to an institution in France for Master's degree and must have received/in the process of receiving the admission/acceptance letter.

Not Eligible for the Scholarship

  • Students who are already pursuing Master's studies in France are not eligible to apply for scholarship. The scholarship can only be given to those students who have not started with their studies in France but have got an offer letter for the same.

Charpak Master's Scholarship Reward

The scholarship will cover expenses for studies in France only and if the student undergoes studies for any semester outside France then the scholarship will not be valid for that period. The candidates who are selected for Charpak Scholarship 2017 will get the following benefits:

  • Student Visa Fee Waiver: The scholars will get a waiver on the fees to be paid for student visa up to approximately Rs 16,500.
  • Course fee: The scholarship will provide 6100 euros (approx. 4.2 lakhs) to cover the tuition fee for the Master's program
  • Monthly Stipend: The scholars will get a monthly stipend of 615 euros for a period of 10 months per annum. Students can reapply for the stipend in the second year.
  • Medical Insurance Coverage: Students will also receive medical insurance coverage of approximately 300 euros per annum.
  • Laptop Allowance: The scholars will receive 700 euros as laptop allowance.
  • Students will also get assistance in searching for suitable accommodation.
  • A new benefit has been added that is the scholars will receive tuition fees up to 6100 Euro.

The Scholarship will not cover the Following Expenses

  • The scholarship will NOT cover the expenses if one semester or more of the course is carried out in another country.
    • However, exceptions can be made for scholars who have completed the first year of their Master’s program in France.

Charpak Master's Scholarship Renewal

The scholarship will NOT be renewed automatically. The students have to reapply for second year funding in France. The application for renewal will be accepted on the basis of academic performance of the candidates in the first year of the Master’s program and a new statement of purpose.

Charpak Master's Scholarship Application form and Process

Candidates applying for Charpak Scholarship 2017 for Master's Program are required to download the Charpak Scholarship 2017 application form from the official website of the French Embassy in India.

Guidelines to Fill Charpak Master's Application Form

  • Candidates must fill the application form in font style: Arial using font size: 10.
  • On no account should the candidate change the current format of the application form.
  • Statement of Purpose: Candidate must pen down an original statement of purpose with a minimum length of one page and maximum two pages.

Steps to Fill the Application form

  • The Form will be in Microsoft Word format.

Download the Application Form

  • Fill in the requisite academic and personal details carefully and correctly.
  • Save the file.
  • Take a print out of the filled-in application form, sign the copy and scan the same.

Documents to be Attached along with the Application Form

  • Scanned copy of your passport: The first page of the passport showing name, photo and expiry date.
  • Full curriculum vitae of maximum 2 pages.
  • Scanned copy of the acceptance letter from the French host institution. If the candidate has not yet received the acceptance letter, mention in the email that you are in the process of getting it soon.
  • Attested scanned copies of Mark sheets of Class 12/ Bachelor’s/ Master’s degree.
  • Scanned copy of Class 10 mark sheet if French was a second language (OR)
    • French language certificate awarded from Alliance Française in India or any recognised university.

Submission of Charpak Master's Application form

  • Attach the scanned copy of the application form along with certain other documents given above and e-mail it to
  • Photos of the documents will NOT be accepted. Only Scanned copies are permissible.
  • The subject of the email should have the name of the program that the candidates are applying for that is " Charpak Master's Program"
  • Candidates have to submit their application forms along with attached documents via E-mail. No hard copy of the documents will be accepted.

  • The names of the selected candidates will be published on the official website of Embassy of France in India in last week of June 2017.
  • Incomplete application forms will be rejected.
