About BASE Fellowship

BASE Fellowship & Internship Program 2017-  The Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India invites application from students pursuing PhD in Science, Engineering & Technology. Bhaskara Advanced Solar Energy is referred to as BASE. The main objective of BASE is to provide an opportunity to the brightest Indian students and scientists to gain exposure and access to world class research facilities in leading U.S. institutions. The fellowship program has been developed to foster contacts between students and scientists from India and the United States. The Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India through its Solar Energy Research Initiative, and the Indo-U.S. Science and Technology Forum (IUSSTF) provide an opportunity to the Indian students and scientists.

The total number of fellowships and internships provided to the Indian students and scientists are given below.

BASE Fellowship and Internship Program 2017 - Categories of Research

The list provided below is the list of broad categories for research (indicative list). Preference will be given to research aimed at addressing India-centric issues related to Solar Energy.

  • Solar Photovoltaics
  • Solar Thermal
  • Grid Interaction including Smart Grids
  • Energy storage
  • System Development and Integration
  • Other (any other related area in Solar Energy)

BASE Fellowship Eligibility Criteria

Class/ Age Phd Scholars in Solar Energy or people working in the field of solar energy
Details

Age

  • For Student Internships: Up to 32 years as on 31 December 2016
  • For Fellowships: Up to 40 years as on 31 December 2016

Eligibility

For Student Internships:

  • Candidates should be currently pursuing a PhD as full-time scholars in the field of Solar Energy, in a public-funded R&D Laboratory/S&T institution (non-private)/recognized academic institute (University/College) in India;
For Fellowship: 
  • Candidates should have a PhD in Science, Engineering or Technology
  • Candidates must provide proof of independent research work in internationally recognised academic journals.
  • A permanent position in a public-funded R&D Laboratory/S&T institution (non-private)/recognized academic institute (University/College) in India.
  • Open only to candidates working in the field of Solar Energy

Letter of Acceptance

The candidate should have a letter of acceptance from a reputed U.S. scientific/technological institution where he/she would like to undertake the research work under the Fellowship/Internship.

BASE Fellowship Reward

The candidates will get the following benefits under BASE Internship and Fellowship Program 2017. 

For Internship/Fellowship

  • Monthly Stipend
  • Return Airfare
  • Contingency allowance

Duration of the program

  • Internship: Minimum 3 months and up to 6 months
  • Fellowship: Minimum 3 months and up to 12 months

The instruction to fill and submit the application form is given below. Candidates can download the application format by following the link.

  • Candidates are encouraged to submit the application along with supporting documents as a single MS Word/pdf document.
  • Applications should be forwarded by the Head of the Department/Institute.

Documents to be enclosed


Please ensure to attach the following enclosures with the application form:

  • Acceptance letter from host institutes in the United States.
  • Two recommendation letters from Referees.
  • Letter of Endorsement/No-Objection Certificate, as per the format indicated on Page 6 of the application form, from the Head of the parent Institution.

  • Application should not be more than 20 pages including CVs

Submission of BASE Fellowship & Internship 2017 Application

 

Candidates are advised to check the details of the duly filled application form before the final submission. Candidates need to keep at least two copies of the application form with them for future reference. No hard copies will be sent the to The Department of Science and Technology office
