UGC is all set to change NET Syllabus. This is happening for the first time in a decade that the syllabus of an entrance exam is going to change completely. NET is a countrywide examination necessary for students or persons who are willing to take teachers job in colleges and universities in India. The UGC (University Grants Commission) is India’s apex regulator, who has set up committees to revise the syllabus so that, they could judge what is being taught in higher education centres across the country.
- According to the officials, UGC has decided to change the syllabus to keep up with the changing curriculum of the varsities across the country.
- The officials are saying that the reason to change the exam syllabus is to know that whether the candidate is able to meet the current requirements or not.

- A senior UGC authority said, “The syllabus of the exam has been the same for past many years through many universities have changed their syllabus over a period of time. Now, we need to make changes.”
- The committees will come up and prepare the draft curriculum and submit it for approval. Once it is approved the decision will be taken on when to administer it.
- For now, the NET exam is conducted twice in a year, first in July and second in December. But this pattern might be changed and the exam will be held only once in a year, instead of the twice-a-year program.
- The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has said that it is difficult to carry out the examination twice.
NTA will be new conducting body of NET, JEE Main, NEET etc.
Why is the UGC changing the NET Syllabus after so long?
Due to the poor response of students towards the test, as 6.5 % students on an average apply for the exam and 1.5 % appears for exam i.e. this reason is stated behind the proposal of reduction of frequency for the exam. The officials said that for now approx. 25 committees will sit for separate subjects as the NET exam hold 90 subjects i.e. official’s decision to set up more committees for all subjects.
As after years UGC is to change the NET syllabus, students have to work more hard to clear the exam. As securing qualifying marks in NET is must apply to be the professor’s in the college or university or to be the teacher in schools.
