Sports got a boost in West Bengal through grants to Educational Institutions

To encourage students and youth to engage in sports, the West Bengal government has assigned certain grants to the schools. For the first time such a step was taken to bring educational institutions in the list of recipients said Arup Biswas, the state Youth Welfare minister.

The government is said to have sanctioned Rs 5000 per to 9631 schools, Rs 10,000 to colleges and Rs 25,000 to 11 universities each. The education department will disburse grants to institutions in Kolkata while district magistrate will do so for educational institutions in districts.

The state government, before this, gave a grant of Rs 2 lakh each to 341 blocks, 118 municipalities and three notified areas.

Siliguri, Asansol, Durgapur, Chadernagore and Howrah corporations were also sanctioned a grant of Rs Five Lac each and Rs Two Lac each to 15 boroughs of Kolkata Municipal Corporation.
