The English literature subject in ICSE schools is soon going to carry the stories of the children's favourite novel and comic characters like harry Potter, TinTin and Amar Chitra Katha etc and much more interesting addition to this discipline. Now students or each class group will be scoring more in literature subjects of their class.

The Council of School Certificate Examination (CISCE) has decided to make some change in the syllabus by adding some of the most popular stories and characters from the TV screens and novels. This changed syllabus will be applied to junior and middle school students from the 2017-18 session.

Characters to be added in Literature soon


CISCE has also introduced graphic novels for all Classes from III to VIII which will be containing the listed below characters and their stories.

  • Amar Chitra Katha
  • Noddy
  • Tintin
  • Asterix
  • Feluda
  • Holmes
  • The Hobbit
  • P G Wodehouse
  • American cartoonist Art Spiegelman's Holocaust saga 'Maus'

Apart from these comic characters some of the autobiographies  and inspiring stories of APJ Abdul Kalam, Ane Frank, and Malala will be taught in the school. Now it will be getting easier to study understand and relate the literature with real life. Lots of other genre additions in CISCE syllabus are mentioned below:

Adventure

The students will be served with "the exploits of Feluda, and Holmes" as well as set off on a life-altering adventure through Middle-earth with Bilbo Baggins in Tolkien's `The Hobbit'.

Classics

Work of Charles Dickens for the classic lovers will also be added. Many autobiographies will also be queued to the syllabus, Anne Frank, Malala's and APJ Abdul Kalam to name a few.

Humour

There will be P G Wodehouse for those students who want humour apart from the adventure classics and autobiographies. And Noddy with lots of illustration is there for the little ones in classes 1st and 2nd.

Class-VI student “Uttiya Gupta” from Adamas International School was very excited by this great news. He is a big fan of Tintin, Asterix, and Harry Potter and he would love to study them in class.

Nabarun De, principal, Central Model School, Baranagar said that they welcome this change. Children will immensely enjoy reading these during their classes, not everything will be serious reading.CISCE was very excited to have all its schools teach the same text up to class 8th. CISCE introduced its changed syllabus for 2017-18 in Lucknow on Wednesday.
