The fees in private self-financing medical colleges offering MBBS in Kerala have been unified on 26 June 2017. The Admission and Fees Regulatory Committee which is appointed by the Kerala State Government has fixed the MBBS course fee at Rs 5.5 Lakh per annum for 2017-18 academic year. Justice R Rajendra Babu, head of the Admission and Fees Regulatory Committee, said the MBBS fee was provisional. An order issued by the appointed committee which says that fee for MBBS course for NRI quota candidates was fixed at Rs 20 lakh a year from the academic year 2017-18.

‘’The demand appeared to be prima facie exorbitant, exploitative and profiteering". "The above fixed fee is provisional and applicable to all self-financing medical colleges, including deemed universities, subject to the regulation by the Committee, as per law," the Committee said on the demand of some medical college to fix the MBBS course fee at Rs 15 Lakh.

The Admission and Fees Regulatory Committee also said that if there will be any difference in the MBBS fee structure at any medical college in Kerala after the final fee regulation, the Committee would take an appropriate order.

If there will be any difference in the fee structure after the final fee regulation, appropriate orders would be issued later, the order said. The committee also ordered to the management of the self-financing medical colleges to submit the relevant documents to fix the tuition fees. It also said that it requires time to call for the documents for fixing the final tuition fee in self-financing medical colleges. As per the order released by the committee, the fee was fixed after the scrutinising previous agreements and the fee collected by the medical colleges in Kerala.

The committee also pointed the NEET Entrance Examination result declaration by the CBSE and the direction of honourable Supreme Court of India to close the date of admissions by September.
