Faults in e-Medhabruti Scholarship 2017: A number of faults and irregularities have occurred during uploading of merit details of the candidate for the Medhabruti scholarship despite a prompt action and implementation of the online procedure was taken by the Government of Orissa. This time the government itself found some irregularities in the process.
Earlier, the Government of Orissa has started to accept an online application from the eligible candidates for fresh and renewal scholarship under e-Medhabruti scholarship scheme. All the application received by the government was verified offline by the concerned institutions. An official source said that the figure obtained by the concerned students and marks figured by the institutions. However, the government has not given the scholarship to the students found ineligible during the verification process.
The Government of Orissa has prescribed new procedure to expedite disposal of e-Medhabruti scholarships to eligible students. The government has decided to receive an online application from the head of the institution or principal of the college for both the year 2016-17 and 2017-18 for the fresh as well as renewal cases, it means no offline documents will be entertained.

Additional chief GVV Sarma Wednesday wrote a letter to all the principals of concerned institutions after finding such irregularities and asked them to upload some certificates of the candidates such as income certificate, mark sheets, resident certificate and bank accounts. He also said in the letter “For the year 2016-17, the list of provisionally selected students was uploaded on the website on 22 May 2017 with instruction to the principals to verify the non-validated applications by 7 June 2017. However, it is a matter of serious concern that less than 15 per cent of institutions have replied so far. Even among the validated cases, it was found that ineligible applicants have also been validated leading to doubts whether the principal had actually verified with due application of mind.”
Conclusion for e- Medhabruti Scholarship Scheme
The government of the state has instructed the principals of the college to collect student’s income certificate, mark sheets, resident certificate, caste certificate (if applicable) and bank accounts and verify as per the e-Medhabruti guidelines. After verification, the principals have to authenticate the applications of the students by 10 and 20 August for the year 2017-18. Under e-Medhabruti scholarships, the government provides 10,000 scholarship to the students of Engineering and professional degree, 12000 to special girl merit, 5,000 to senior merit and 3,000 to junior merit students who qualify for the scholarship.
